Increased Gas Mileage with mods?

I don't know if its just me but i have definitely noticed a considerable increase in gas mileage after i modded my car. I noticed it when i first put on my Place Racing cai on my 98 auto, and I noticed it even more when i combined the cai to a WS y-pipe. I'm pretty sure this isn't due to a lightening up on the throttle because if anything I go to WOT wayy more. Any1 here notice similiar increases in gas mile with mods?

Yeah. You should normally see a little bit of an increase in mpg with better airflow.

would an upgraded ecu from technosquare or JWT improve or degrade gas mileage? I know it re-maps the air fuel mixture.

They say it increases it. I haven't heard anything either way from actual users.

My old '93 240SX improved on the highway with intake and exhaust the only mods. I guess it's because the engine breathes easier, making it more efficient and requiring less effort to maintain a constant speed on the highway. I was getting 28mpg stock @80mph, with mods I got 29mpg @90-95mph, that's a pretty good improvement if you ask me.

My gas mileage has gone up recently, but I think it is more due to some maintenance stuff I did rather than mods. If anything, I would say the mods cause the gas mileage to go down, because you use it more heavily. I know I do.
I switched to Premium gas and changed fuel filter and that is what I attribute my better gas mileage to.

My mileage has gone up considerably. This last time I filled up, I hit 27mpg; 80% city, 20% highway (70mph). After having modded my car, I drive more conservatively to prevent accidents rather than floor it more often. I've floored it maybe three times in the past week and twice was to make sure my DR mod was working right. I also replaced my fuel filter so that had something to do with it.

Just curious, but why is your screen name SMOKEYMOUNTAIN if you live out West?

(reason I am asking, I went to the Smokey Mountains to White Water Raft this past weekend. It was just on my mind.)

BTW, 27mpg is sick mileage to get with a Maxima. I mean, I don't get but that on all highway if I am conservative. I really think the older ones are more capable of this than the newer 4th gens...probably because of emissions crap on mine being more strict.

I regularly get 29.? on the highway. What is stock? An improvement from stock is insane especially with 235's.

I guess that just proves that the older ones are more efficient than the newer ones. I hear of a lot of 95/96 that get that kind of mileage.

Please explain to me how the emission controls are different on any 4th gen. I can understand it being different on a cali spec but that is true for all 4th gens not just 4.5's or 99's. Its not necessarily true that all 99's have more cats or are automatically cali spec.

I have noticed way better mileage with the mods. That is, when my foot isn't planted through the floor board!

I don't really know, unless my 99 weighs a little more than yours and I have more O2 sensors or something. I don't know, but I never hear of the 99's getting as good of gas mileage as the 95/96. I am FED spec, but I don't know how to explain it to you. I have just seen that pretty consistently with the 99's.

What would you consider "way" better gas mileage?
I mean, mine gets like 2mpg better. That is good, but I would not say that is way better.
