How do I stop this beep?
Hey I got my "new" 96 GXE just last week, and I've been getting this beeping sound (a long beep about every second) when only my front drivers side door is open. It'll beep only when this door is open and it doesn't stop until I close the door, and it's getting on my nerves.
I just want to know what this beep is for and how I put an end to it!
Thanks

very simple:
1) locate the 2 screws on the underdash trim below the steering wheel and remove them
2) pop out the fuse panel door and pop the top of the panel straight out twords you (there will be 2 clips on your left side)
3) the third clip is on the upper right corner of the panel, pull straight out again and lower the entire piece.
4) on there will be a lil white box with a harness going to it.
5) unplug it and NEVER hear that annoying beep again!!

So killing the ignition beep also kills the beep that occurs when you leave your lights on? Because that one has helped me a few times and even though the ignition beep is annoying I dont think it would be worth getting rid of my lights on beep too.

Ok, let me explain this. You know how when you turn on the car to the ON position, you can sort of hear this sound. Apparently that's the fuel pump or something, that sound is just pressure building up in the system. Back in the old days I read here on the ORG that it's a good thing to wait for the beeps to stop. By that time the car is already finished with running diagnostics or whatever it does on start up. This apparently helps in the winter the most.

I've got into the habit of pulling the key out of the ignition a little bit when I don't plan on locking the car. Just force your self to do that each time you turn the car off and don't plan on locking it, eventually it'll be something you do with out even thinking

I'd leave that "beep" where it is if I was you, god forbid you lock yourself out if you're going out with friends on a saturday night, or leave your lights on the whole day. When i change my gauges I thought about it and decidedd to leave it on there. That was just me, sometimes I'm not very carefull and I need these little beeps to remind me.

The beep 'ding' they are talking about is probably the seat belt beep. They must either not wear their seat belt, very unwise, or they don't buckle their seat belt before starting the car.

Turn the key to key all the way without starting the engine, so basically when all the dash lights come on, then leave it, and it will beep 5 times or so, and stop.
If you just turn it to listen to the radio, i.e. not turned far enough to see the dash lights turn on, then it will stay beeping forever.
Thats how it works in my 95 anyway.
