Need Help! 0304 and 0504
Hey guy's,
My mom's '96 autotragic has been guzzling gas and acting reaaly weird lately. I finally got around to pulling codes last night and got 0304( been dreading that one!), and a 0504 Transmission Control Module or Circuit Fault. WTF? Anyone else had this problem? Should I just replace the TCU, or is it something else? Also I need to know where the TCU is located.(I'm a 3rd Genner).
Thanks.

0504
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0504 points to a problem with the Automatic Transmission Communications line. Pulse signals are exchanged between the Engine Control Module and the Transmission Control Module to assure smooth shifting during hard acceleration or deceleration.
This malfunction is detected when the ECM continuously receives an incorrect voltage from the TCM. Possible causes include...
- Harness or connectors (The communications line circuit between the ECM and the TCM is open or shorted.)
- TCM
- Discharged or faulty battery

Well, the battery is fine, so that leaves me with the TCM, or the communications line circuit. How do I find that? Still need to know where to find the TCM. The Haynes book convieniently left that out, along with the VE. Thanks.

Take out hte center console(ac/radio/clock) and it will be towards the bottom near the carpet. It should be hte only box with a harness going to it. If the max has auto climate control, there will be 2 boxes.
