Anyone ever replace the carpet in your max?

Last weekend my 96 SE was left at home and it rained hard. Well the street it was parked on floods easily and the water got into the car. Fortunately it did not go above the carpet onto the seats. It did get the carpet good though, there was a puddle in the back where the backseat passengers put their feet. I vaccumed it right away and did the best I could, it smells like *** and it's still a little damp. A mechanic suggested that I take out the carpet and replace the spongy stuff underneath it, goot, I think?.

Anyone have any experience on this? I would like to replace this goot crap and actually install new carpet if it's not too much $.

thanks

Your best bet is to go find one from a junk yard... installation shouldn't be very difficult... you'll have to pull all seats and center console - thats probably the hardest part...
