A few n00b questions... please be gentle. :)

OK. Ive been around my fair share of Maximas, but as of tomorrow I'm finally gonna own my own! So I guess i really brush up on my Nissan knowledge.

My Max will be a 97GLE, dark green, beige leather, auto tranny, sunroof, power everything. I dont want to make it into a racecar, but I do plan on doing some simple and tasteful mods. Ive heard that replacing the intake, headers, the ultra-restrictive y-pipe, and the rest of the exhaust can gain upwards of 30hp. Is this correct? Ive heard that the auto trannys are known to go bad. Also, ive never owned an auto tranny car. I really wanted to get a 5 speed, but the g/f cant drive a stick of the life of her so I broke down and got an auto. Any tips or tricks on how to make it shift a little better or last longer?

Tell me all about the cool new car Im getting! Im really excited. Any tips, tricks, cool mods, pertinent info that i need to know. LAY IT ON ME!!!!

You won't get much from headers, I mean Y-pipe is much greater bang for the buck. Stock intake is pretty good performance wise, people usually change it for sound.

This site is very helpful for start.

Stock intake is good, y pipe is the best. Good luck with the Max bro.

Check out the group deals forum, you'll find great deals on there. The org is a very helpful resource for all your maxima questions. The auto's do not go bad easily. My dad's old maxima he drove until 185,000 with no big problems whatsoever. My max has 151,000 now and is running great, I haven't had problems either. Good luck and welcome to the org.

Welcome to the .org, man.
I am glad that you are finally getting one for yourself.
That is great!
they are great cars, and I know that you will enjoy it.
Take care of her and she will take care of you.

Get a y-pipe(just read on here) and get a new b-pipe and you will be set for the time being. That will proably add 15-20hp at the crank. Cannot ask for anything more than that for uncer $300 installed.

Why would you let her drive it anyway?
I don't let people drive my car....that is one reason I got a 5spd....a lot of people that I would not want driving my car anyway would be able to drive it....namely chics...ha ha.

The autos do drive you rather than you driving them though. That is too true.
