Orange Rotors...
i was just wondering, on my car the rotors turn orange after awhile like they have mud on them... also when walking around nissan, i saw a few 4th gens doing it too. so i know its not just mine.
is it the rotors, or the pads? they are both stock. i want to upgrade my rotors, but dont want them turning orange if it is the pads.

Plating only works on the area that won't get rubbed off. (most) Brake pads are semi-metallic and will rub off any plating you get.
Correct me if I'm wrong but this is what I have experienced through friends and myself with different types of plating (i.e. cadmium or zinc plating)

Just keep the rotors well oiled.
ONLY KIDDING, please do not do that. Don't worry about the rust...a good run around the block will get rid of any orange. If anything else on the rotor is rusting then you could always paint that part.

the rotors come plated just so the area thats not making contact with the pad doesnt rust since when you drive you will rub off the dust after it rains or something the rust really shouldnt matter...
they all get rusty :P

I got new rotors about a month ago and yep, the center parts are all rusted. This seems to be normal with all rotors.
Although the Jag that always parks next to me in the parking lot at home doesn't seem to have this problem.
I'm thinking about maybe painting the center part of the rotors with some high heat paint though when I have time. (Silver or Black)

Being in Pensacola, FL you will always have the rust problem. I mean, it is pretty humid there all the time like it is here in Jackson, Mississippi. Letting the car sit over night sometimes, they can rust, depending on the humidity.
It is nothing to worry about, just like the other guys have said. If you brake once or twice, it will be gone and you will be back to your shiny rotors.

Painting is a good idea, but time consuming.
I mean, I did one of mine black to see what it looks like. It looks clean, but it was a pain to do. I don't know if it is worth the time for me. I guess it depends on what your wheel type is....if you can see the rotors a lot.

It does clean up the wheel well a lot.
However, I have never been really huge about keeping the wheel well too terribly clean, because it never will be. I mean, you drive and you get brake dust. It is a functional thing and that is pretty much it.
