auto tranny mod??

reading and article in www.nissanperformnacemag.com it mention something about doing something to the tranny to improve shift heres the article anyone knows anything about this mod.
-------------------------------------
Other ideas to improve shifting with an auto tranny could be to shim the PL solenoid regulator springs to increase peak pressure or to shim the shift accumulator springs to firm up and speed up the shifts. Or you can just swap in a manual! from- www.nissanperformnacemag.com

Mine's by the throttle linkage and activates only at WOT. Great mod for the money. Jime says it causes the tranny to shift as fast as, if not faster than the VB mod that costs hundreds of dollars.

Ok guys... I'm an idiot... Where can I find the write up for this Drop Resistor Mod?... I know it says Maxima.org, so I'll check there. I'm just wondering if there was also a write up here at the forums side.... Ah well. I'll look into it

EDIT: Ok... I looked around and didn't find anything.... Could someone pretty please save this idiot!

Got any proof or reasoning to back up your claim, erty67?

how can the drop resistor be bad for the tranny if it does the same thing the VB does? they both quicken and firm up the shifts, the only thing i can think of that would be bad is if you have a weak line, the high pressure could blow it...but you would know that the second you went full pressure.

I have a VB mod, and it works great, do the DROP RESISTOR and tell me how you car is a in a couple of weeks. Its not good for the tranny, you at least need a tranny cooler first of all. But I think doing the Drop Resistor mod, is excessively wearin the tranny, your not letting the car shift on its own, and your messing with the cars electrical parts. I might not know much, but i think its a bad idea doing the Drop Mod, but I know a ****load of people can say they've done it for years w/ no ill effects. and yet theres anothe ****load saying its f*cked up there transmission.

They don't to the same thing. The Vb mod actually involves rebuilding components in your VB and mechanically changing the shift points, line pressure, slippage, racers have been doing it for years to improve shifts.Drop resistor just takes away a function of the transmission that it needs to operate "properly". Drop resistor is the "poor mans" tranny mod(you'll be even poorer when your tranny blows),VB mod is the right way to go about it.If you research this a bit on the org. you'll find the proof you need.

I don't think there's a write up. The VB mod requires replacement of the Valve Body. ...or tranny shops can modify yours. I got mine from Maximum Tuning and I love it.

Hasn't this issue been talked a lot before?
VB mod is definately good, but I don't really care for the harshness all the time.
DR mod basically does the same thing but should only be used at WOT.

I've got dual switches for my DR mod.
On/Off switch with a WOT switch.
Works great for me.

There is no proof that the DR Mod or VB Mod shorten or lengthen the life of the tranny period.

thanks for the lesson. Sorry guys, but yes I am NOT a Transmission professional. I only said that based on what I have heard over my last 3years on this site. Based on my NON-professional experience, I decided to do a search and give you guys something to read and make your own decision on, verse making up my own stories. I did NOT mean to mislead you. Sorry if I came across that way. Have a nice day.

My mechanic/friend (owner of a garage, stock car racer) who helped me install the VB mod, told me before I even told him what I was installing that the reduced clutch slippage and harder shifts that I was looking for, contrary to what most might think, will actually lengthen transmission life. If you own a 5 speed you change the clutch multiple times troughout it's life, if your auto's slipping you need a new TRANNY. Transmission just becomes more durable/capable to handle the extra mods (especially SC) and our tendancy to floor it all the time!
