Best sounding exhaust?

I havent heard too many modded Maxes. What is a nice sounding exhaust? I dont really want to drop the $$ for a full catback right now, but I do want do get an axleback or a muffler. Theres a hole in mine and theres no sense in replacing with an OEM, but I dont have $500 to drop on it right now. Any suggestions?

Depends on what you mean when you say... "nice sounding"

If you mean a deep throaty sound (and added HP aka y-pipe), I've always been under the impression that the following setup is pretty good. I am considering it myself:

budget y-pipe
Custom 2.5" B-pipe (with resonator)
Flowmaster muffler

Anyone else care to comment on this setup? Who has this particular combo of pipes?

I have a y-pipe(not sure what kinda came with the car), stock b-pipe with magnaflow resonator and a 40 Series Flowmaster. Before I got the resonator put on it was real loud. I then got the magnaflow resonator put on and it quietened(spl?) it down a pretty good bit, sounded alot better. At idle its not loud at all, it kinda gurgles like a V8 but not too loud. After it broke in it sounded like it got louder, but it might have just been me. The exaust not goes away around about 3,500RPM I believe. These are my opinions on it, I hope it helps out. I can probably make a video clip of it tomorrow if you would like.

I have heard and had a zillion diffrent set ups and I think the absolut best by far is the greddy sp or sp2. It's the deapest and it's really quiet compared to the others. Even the original sp that every body says drones, is nice even with a y pipe. Get the greddy I'm serious it's the best

i dont know if I could stomach putting a flowmaster on my car. Do you know if greddy sells just the muffler, or do you have to buy the whole catback?
