changing spark plugs on 1995 maxima 6cyl

I tried to change the spark plugs on a 1995 maxima 6 cyl. They have a metal cover with two screws, which are easy enough to take off. Then there is also an orange plastic cap covering the plug. How do you disconnect the wire and then take the plastic cap off? Is there a special tool required? Once off will I be able to reach the plug? Any tricks to avoid breaking these pieces? Thanks T

I am not really sure what you are talking about... orange plastic cap, metal cover... is that on front or rear bank. All you need to do is to take coils out and that gives you access to sparkplugs. On rear bank it helps taking off the nuts that hold EGR valve to make some space to get to the plug.

thanks, what i see is a metal cover over each plug. it has two screws holding it down. i tood each metal cover off, then see a plastic cap underneath, this is what the wire clips onto. had a hard time figuring out how to easily remove clip (still not sure) but it attached to this plastic piece. i tried to pull and turn, but having never do it didn't want to force it off. does that make sense?

Those are coils! Once you remove two screws on each coil, unplug the harness (find a nub to push on a side and pull) and that pull the coil pack up! That's it!

just curious about something txmass. before you got to the two screws on each plug, did you remove a part with 4 allenhead screws with the word "Nissan" on it? if you didn't, the plugs with orange/red plastic are fuel injectors, not what you wanna take off!!

Thanks, i think you just broke the code for me. I've changed plugs on other cars that I've owned, but this one seemed a bit more complex. I wouldn't have thought to remove the "Nissan" Plate held down by the allenhead screws as you suggested. I just assumed the plugs would be visible, hence I probably was messing with the fuel injector. Bad assumption on my part. Another dumb question, but before I go in again, just to be sure does the one "Nissan" cover plate cover all 6 plugs and can they be reached from the front portion of the engine? Or should I look for a second cover? Thanks for taking the time, I very much appreciate it.

their are 3 plugs under the nissan valve cover. cylinder 2,4,6

after you remove the 4 allenhead screws, you'll be greated with 3 ignition coils. unplug the harness's and unscrew the 2 phillips screws attached to each. Remove the coil from the lower manifold. now you have access to the spark plugs. (now would also be a good time to ohm out your ignition coils, as they all eventually go bad. correct resistance should be infinite.

to reach the rear bank spark plugs. use a fender cover/towel to avoid reiuing the wax job. and remove the 2 phillips screws attached to each ignition coils. these are banks 1,3,6 pull out the coils. and use an extension socket to reach the spark plugs.

Don't know why nobody's posted this yet. But here, read this: http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...howpage&pid=33. That should cover everything. Good luck.
