so I take my ride to my buddy's supposedly famous Z mechanic who looked at my car and told me hundreds of things wrong with my car and what to fix....now im scared....maybe he is just trying to rob me, don't know...

he says I may have some break in my EGI harness....the one that bends around the engine and is the main ecu harness....hope not!!!

any of you have this problem in the past....just gauging to see if this guy is making this stuff up...LOL

he's not messing with you.
i know the guy, he's great and he's certified by nissan.
i was considering taking my car to him but i took it to the dealer instead because i would have ended up paying more if he fixed it because it would mean i would have to take my car out of the dealer.. so i just let them finish the job.
the place is in hawthorn on crenshaw blvd right?
he knows what he's talking about.

How about you provide us with the list and we can tell you what the different things are and what to do about them.

Also, I've never heard of the "EGI" harness. Please have him explain all the acronyms too.

I can't imagine that there are "hundreds" of things wrong with your car (or even a dozen). He's probably blowing smoke.

If there is a break in the "main ECU harness", how does your car work?

I've seen too many mechanics develop this prima donna attitude where they stoke their egos pointing out all sorts of bogus problems.

There was a TSB out for 4th gens concerning the ECU/main harness having frayed and shorted out wires where it makes the bend coming out of the firewall. The result was the ECU throwing codes for stuff that was working fine, and there was a LONG list of codes that had been thrown. I'll post the link when I find it.

I've read about some people with this harness problem on the maxima usenet group - alt.autos.nissan.maxima.
