If you are on your original starter it is most probably your starter and your opening/closing doors had nothing to do with it - other than maybe shake the car enough to just turn the starter spindle enough to make it work again.... time for a new starter I would say... when the car doesn't start, is there any click heard when you turn the key or is it just dead?

just dead, i put in push button start thinking that it just may be the ignition switch is f'ed up and so far i havnt had a problem starting the car, i always had to turn the key really hard to make it work so that just may be the problem

If I understand you correctly, you put in a push-button start to bypass the ignition switch because you thought that was the problem. The problem did no go away, and now it does not start at all?

If yes, then I would suggest you replace the starter. There was one for sale in the classifieds section for under 100 bucks.. I would get that if I were you... Nissan starters (even rebuilt) run around 200 before shipping... many people have had bad luck with autozone type replacements.

the push button is working so far but i took it off because i didnt have time to re connect it all correctly and right now im just dealing with a messed up ignition i think, i got a guy for parts my friend owns a shop and the dealerships give discounts to licenced shops to do repairs so he gets my parts fairly cheap

My starter went out last month. When I turned the key it would just click, so I tapped the starter & then it would crank a little, but eventually just gave way to clicking again. Replacing it was VERY easy & it's run perfectly ever since. $140 at Auto Zone but the core was valued at $45 I think. $100 overall.

I'd suggest OEM starters since i've heard that store bought starters sometimes gives problems.

i hate autozone. i bought my starter from there 5 months ago and it craped out on me 2 days ago. i would suggest advanced auto or napa. or just stay away from the duralast brand name. oh i paid 140 with 45 core.

My starter went bad last week and left me stranded in ATL.

I thought it was the alternator that just got replaced, so I called the dealership to have them fix the car for free.

Ended up being $655 all together.

That is exactly what happened with my starter. I could feel it getting increasingly more hesitant to start. I knew it was coming, then one day it just didn't start so I fixed it. I checked out advanced auto & their starter was $150 with a core valued at $30. I trust auto zone here, it's where I always go. I guess its just a personal preference.

So its my starter about to go? Should I wait till it goes or change it now? You dont think it could be my battery? Because it cranks fine when its heated up only when it sits for a while it hesitates alittle bit.

If the starter is bad, its a pretty good idea to change it out before it poops on you. Here is a really good write up on this site.

It could be your battery since it starts fine after you've been driving. I'd suggest you get your battery tested (at Auto Zone or something).

i don't think its a matter of the people at autozone it the brand duralast. they are cheaper and cheaply made. technically acdelco parts from autozone are the same from napa. so i would stay clear of the duralast brand at least for electric parts.

I started having problem starting up my car as well. It cranks slowly but starts up right away. I was thinking it was a battery ( mine was 3 years old) and got a replacement. It didn't change much. I feel that it cranks a little faster but still not as good as it supposed to. My Max has almost 100K. Does it sound that starter is beginning to have problems? I don't want to wait for it to die on me.

lucky - if the cranking is slow even after a new battery, your starter is definitely showing signs of wear. Mine did the same thing and then just stopped starting altogether. It would be best to replace it before it dies on you and leaves you stranded. I would recommend using an original Nissan starter - it will run about 200 bucks after returning your old one for core credit. (see jrnissanparts.com)

Got new starter from Advanced auto parts, $140 after the core return, and with life time warranty. Seems to be working well...

Talking about starter, I have a long story to tell.

My starter was acting up ever since I brough the car a year ago. At the time, no one can start my car. I played with the ignition key so much, I found a way to turn the starter. Everyone who tried to start my car asked me if I have a starter-kill button installed. No, Nope, No

After a year of use, I know the starter might be going. A couple of weekends ago, I was taking a friend to the Newark airport. I was having trouble starting the car, but at the end I finally get it moving. On the way home from the airport, I tried to start my car and leave the parking lot. Damn #$%^ wouldn't start(6:00AM + a bit too much alcohol in my system). I finally located the starter after 3 hours stranded in the airport parking lot. The next day, the starter finally gave away. I have AAA towed to the AAA authorize center. F#@#king tow truck driver was *****ing he missed his ride home and it going to take him 3 hours to get home. Screw him!!

The next day, the service center call me and gave me the price to fix the car. I asked them what was the problem. They thinking is the starter or maybe the wire. I was like, you charged me $90 for inspection and you can't figure what's wrong with my car! I told them not to fix it. $180 for labor, 180 for parts. I told them, i'll get a tow truck and tow it to my mom and papa shop. Good thing i have AAA, it only cost me $10 to get it there. The shop charge me $160 for parts and labor. I was out of there in one hour. 127,000 miles with original starter, I was like damn. Starter came with one year warrantly too.

If you live in the nyc, I would recommend this small shop to anyone. Price is cheap and they do a great job. Located in Brooklyn, btw 4th and 5th ave 28th st.

Sorry about my long story.
