Car runs normally with ECU in self-diagnostic mode...WTF??
I went in my car today to check the ECU for any ghost codes. When i looked at the ECU, the screw was in the self-diagnostic position. I put it in the normal position and the CEL started blinking (0505). I've heard before that when the ECU is in self-diagnostic mode the engine won't run correctly. As you can imagine as was as ****. When i put the screw in the normal position and turned the car on, it took it a couple more cranks than normal to start and when it did the engine raced up to about 2600 RPM and stayed there even with my foot completely off the gas pedal. Turned the car off, put in back in the self-diagnostic position and the car started up and ran normally. Anybody know why this is happening??
P.S. When i follow the procedure for checking CEL codes it works. I.E. putting it in self-diagnostic for 2 seconds and then putting it in the normal position.

I had mine in diagnostic mode once for a few months. I got the oddest ticking from my IACV during that time that I could not figure out as well as a rought idle. Once I put the screw back in the right spot things cleared right up.
To this day, when I turn the screw to all the way clockwise I get that ticking sound from the IACV...it's really wierd
