Knocking noise when I turn

Whenever i turn my wheel and hit the gas i hear like a clicking or knocking noise. What could this be?

If you already hear clicking, replacing the CV boot will not cut it. The whole CV shaft is likely bad.

Im a newbie with car maintenance so how do I check the cv joints and boot, where would they be, and how much would it cost to change the whole cv shaft if that is necessary?

turn your wheel all the way to the right, and lift the vehical. you will see a rubberish piece of material surrounding the inside of the axle. if you see oil around it, clean it up, and look for tears in the boot.

I have a similar problem...When i turn the wheel all the way to the left and then move...i hear the knocking sound. Its probably the same problem?

Popping/clicking while turning at slower speeds= busted strut bearing.

The bearing is $30. You can do the job yourself, all ou'll need is 14mm, 17mm sockets and and 19mm wrench. You'll need to rent a spring compressor(mcpherson strut tool) from autozone.

Funny thing is...my car before the Maxima was a Stanza, and that had the same problem too, on the same side as well...coincidence?

DAVE Sz, doesn't the strut bearing only make noise while you are actually turning the wheel? I thought that it simply allowed the spring to turn on the seat and the popping noise when turning the wheel was due to the springs hopping along since they can't turn on the bearing. I'm not sure about this so somebody please correct me if I am wrong. If this is the case then it would be the problem if it happens while at a standstill and turning the wheel, and it would be CV's if it happens when moving and turning in a circle.
