axles,CELs,Shocks &struts, and questions

OK.. I have been reading this forum and posting in others for about 2 months now.. this is my first one here.. finally got it to work..

Both boots around my CV joints are split open... I am going to buy new axles.. what kinds should i look at. i had a not so good experience with advanceauto axles.. they take them back easy but its just a pain to do. and where is a good place to get them.?

I have replaced my engine coolant sensor.. due to a code
then i got 07-07 and 10-03 rear heated o2 and park nuetral switch... what is a park nuetral switch in a manual car? so i replaced the rear o2 made it about 4 days and it came back on.. i reset it and about 3 days later it just showed the code for the park nuetral switch... what is going on with the crap?

my stock shocks and struts are dying.. Im thinking about selling my marshall jcm 900 amp head to pay for new tokico illuminas and their springs from custommaxima.com.. is this really worth almost 700$ or can i get pretty decent ride quality with a small drop for much less and use the difference for a y-pipe?

Also if i replace my y-pipe the cat looks pretty rusty... should it be replaced.. oem ones are real expensive.. how crappy are the ones on ebay.. and will they sound alright? and perform alright? i know they give almost no gain in HP but what about the fact that they are just cheaper?

thanks

Seriously, try raxles for the axles, and think 2x before dropping a car in morgantown. Where do you live in Morgantown? I lived there fro a while, and I could barely get around w/o scraping in a stock cavalier. When I took my max and my I30 there (bothe dropped) I had to watch everywhere I went. it does not sound like a bad idea, but scraping all over the place and going out of your way to avoud scraping is more of a pain in the **** than it sounds.

If yo udrop, do the most mild drop that you can: H&R or Tein H-tech. Getting good struts is a good idea, though, and a y-pipe is a great first mod.

yeah man.. no. 11 this year...

[COLOR=Navy]I think that is one of if not the highest preseason rank for Mountaineer football ever.

I live in Southpark on Brockway Ave. I work in Cheat lake.

I don't really want much of a drop on my car.. I have the old saw blade rims on it... don't really have the money to change the rims out. I just want the handling. I really want a Tokico Illumina suspension kit.. I found them on that group deal that may be dead now for 560$ shipped with the springs made by vogtlandfor tokico. A small drop wouldnt hurt too much.. But I dont have to go anywhere in this town.. just out through sabraton to the interstate. I don't really want to spend that much money on the suspension.. but i want it to handle like it should and still be driveable. any ideas on cheaper almost as good setups.?

I have a lot of things i want to do to this car but Im living off Internship pay right now which limits me a lot. I have to replace these axles, find out whats wrong with the CEL coming on, Replace these shocks and struts, and get my Y pipe.

Where you exit southprk to DK Blvd is a nasty dip. Also, if you ever venture into sunnyside/univ ave area, you are in for a treat. But you knwo where you drive, so if you think you will be okay, you are probably right.

I would strongly consider a mild drop like the H&R or Tein H-tech. My intrax are fairly low, and I scrape when I am in MoTown for work. I take a rental rather than fighting it. With eithe of the springs that I mentioned, I would go with illuminas, if you can afford them. With the H&R, I have run Tokico HP and liked them, though I do NOT know how they wil be w/ the H-tech. most likely very similar. On a budget, H&Rs with HPs in the rear and KYB GR-2s in the front would be cost-effective and functional, or you can do the HPs or GR-2s all around.

Also, remember that used springs, as long as they were not heated or cut, are pretty much the same as new springs, but they have already broken in. I would rather buy used springs and save that cash for other mods- or for better struts.

BTW, I currently have Intrax springs with KYB AGX struts, but I am swapping the rear AGX out for rear Illuminas. I already ordered them. The AGX were a bit harsh in the rear.

What do you do in Morgantown? Student, resident...? I am up there once a month for work.

You can use illuminas (or any other spring, for that matter) with the stock springs.

And if you want a set of Intrax, I can sell you mine for $100 and drop them off to you in 2-3 weeks.
