Need Help with trunk lock assembly

my trunk flaps open all the time cause the top part of the trunk lid which locks to the bottom is damaged. I finally got a new top part from nissan but the bottom part is messed up too. When u press the release button on the door or on my alarm it makes some slapping noise but doesnt do anything. The bottom part actually came loose before and i put it back but i saw some string with like a ball at the end and when i press the unlock it just like slaps around or something. Does anyone know how to fix the bottom part or what has to be done?

i know how the top part is done but i dont want to put the new piece on and take a chance of never being able to open the trunk unless by force.

thanks in advance

The striker on the bottom part has a rubber washer. If that washer gets out of place you won't be able to open the trunk. If you can somehow open the trunk and look at the metal wire pulling back as someone pushes the opn button, you'll see what I mean.

This was a long time ago so I don't remember where the washer is supposed to be exactly. I'm pretty sure though that when you pull the striker the washer is supposed to stay in place.

You can open it from inside. You'll have to take off the rear seats and all the plates behind the seats. It should take a while. I remember when it happened to me a few years back. It was a pain but I got it to work. I'll try to get a pick of where the washer should be.

The pic is upside down by the way. If you have a long piece of metal, rod or pipe, push the tab I mentioned up. I was just taking the pic and pushed it down and locked out my trunk. Pushed it back up and it works fine.

You dont have a key for your trunk? How do you start your car?

3rd post down

You don't need to take your seat or anything out, just use a flashlight and a long skinny tool. (broken mop handle)

That's only if it's the tab I pointed out to him, which I explained above as well. If the striker and rubber washer are messed up then he needs to get his body inside the trunk to fix it.

well just a small update, i forced the trunk open and now when it closes there's like a small gap. Seems like body of car was pulled a little or something. I hate doing stuff myself cause things just always end up messing up. I have a sub box blocking the hole from inside car so i couldnt use a broom or anything to open trunk. I locked it again thinking i fixed the problem and this BS starts again so i just kept it locked for now. The bottom part has a lot of gooey stuff on it and makes the release kind of move in a funny way. I dont need access to my trunk until i get my new amp anyway so i'm just gonna ride it like that for time being. thanks Dave.
