having key copied

the guy at Walmart said it would not work. He said it has a chip in it. And that it WOULD unlock the car, and even start it, but that it would stall because it has to have the chip in it.
Any truth to this?

no lie there, you have a '99 which means you have the immobilizer system.

do you still have the small metal tag on your keychain that gives you a code for the dealer to make the exact same key?
