Disable/Enable Alarm

Hi,

This is my first post. I just got a 97 maxima GLE and this is my first car. The previous owner told me that she disabled the alarm so that it doesn't make a noise or flash the lights or anything.

I didn't know you could disable and enable an alarm system unless you directly removed it or disconnected it. I tried looking it up in the user's manual but it's not there which makes me doubt I had one in the first place and maybe the owner was lying or didn't know what she was talking about.

Can I enable the alarm again? Is there such a thing?

check to see if the hood switch is unpluged or has the wires jumped. If the security system sees that the hood is open it will not arm the alarm. This is a popular and easy place to disable the alarm. However she may have disabled it because it has another problem.

Good luck.

The hood switch is located on the drivers side on the front upper brace. (To the right of the radiator). It has a rubber boot around it and you can push it down. When you shut the hood it gets pushed down and the security system can tell that the hood is closed because it either opens or closes the electrical circuit at that switch.

On some alarms, if you unplug the hood switch the system will think that the hood is closed all the time. In order to disable the system on these cars you would obviously have to cut the wires and tie them together (jumpering)

I dont know which type of switch the max has.

I have the same problem. Just bought a 98 and found the alarm module was unplugged. (Don't know if it's stock or third party alarm) The lights did flash and the doors did lock when the keyless remote was pressed to lock the doors. The security light is on but it doesn't make any buzz sound when the doors are opened without the key or keyless remote. I tried not close the windows and lock the doors with the keyless remote. The security is on. But when I open the door of the driver side from inside (without the key or remote), it make no noise. Where should I plug the alarm module in?
