EGR, Exhaust Leak, and O/D

A few weeks after I installed my y-pipe, I got the EGR code(0302). When I installed , the mid o2 sensor only threaded in a few threads, so I think it might be leaking there. I know an exhuast leak would cause the 0302 code. For somereason when I am in overdrive and I mash the gas, it will stay at a certain rpm and sit there even though it is at WOT. And when I turn OD off it jump about 300-400 rpms and shifts. If I leave it in drive, it acts normal. The same thing happens on my friends 99 and he has the EGR code too. This started to happen for me just a few minutes after the EGR code came up. Now could my EGR system be clogged or would it be an exhaust leak? Also a few min before hte code came, I felt alot of vibrations in the gas pedel and then the CEL came on.

I bet you have a A/T code. Check it with the procedure from the FAQ. Maybe a solenoid?

Well see, I had the same EGR code 2 weeks ago and vibrations in the pedal and the problems in OD. After I reset the ECU, everything went back to normal. And now the code came back so I wanted to see what peeps had to say about it.

You know how our ECU works right? The cel won't go off unless the same malfunction is "sensed" twice, not during the same trip. I just had an EVAP code I fixed and it would show up after I started and drove the car the second time after the reset. Anyway, back on topic. I hate the ****ing EGR. Is the OD flashing when you turn the car on? There are some AT codes that set off the CEL. The TPS might have something to do with it or maybe it's the OD clutch lock up thing?

Nope OD light is not flashing and only code is 0302.

Could hte virbrations in the pedal I felt before the CEL came on be from a clogged EGR system?

Any temp ways to clean EGR? I will change or clean out the lines when I do hte VI swap in less then 3-4 months, but anything eays and cheap I can do now?

Also lets say I am in drive WOT 3rd gear at 5500rpm, it will go to 6000 and shift.
If I turn OD on and it is at WOT in 3rd(OD) it will stay at 5500 and stop, but as soon as I turn it back off. it jump a couple of hundred RPMs and shifts.

Im getting the same code (0302) after installing the headers, and the pedal also vibrates, but only at a stop. I went to a mechanic and they told me $230 to install a new EGR. So I dont know what to do.

Run Seafoam and where ever you see some come out is where you got an exhuast leak.

No exhaust leak. So it is my egr system. So do I clean out the hoses with TB cleaner? How do I clean the vavle and the EGRC-BPT vavle? Is it possible to remove the hose that goes to the header and put it back one easily?

Cleaning the EGR might not do it. Give it a shot. I've seen maybe two EGRs that were fixed by cleaning. They had a big carbon rock keeping the plunger open. My friend has a shop on the Queens/Nassau border and they work on a lot of maximas. I just go there when I have a question. Sometimes he asks me to find stuff on the computer for him.

the EGR valve is a moving part. It can fail. Buy a new one

I just looked up the EGR valve for a 99 max and it says they are $192.79. Where did you see them for $79?

you're right. I looked up 98 Max SE and it was like 78.77. I didnt know the 99s were different. I'll look around and see what we can do. Maybe my parts guys can order one for less.

Did some more looking. Pinnacle nissan.com has an OEM EGR for 95-99 maximas for 100.31. They should all be the same. So the 98 should work with the 99s. Maybe rock auto didnt update their site.

If you could get an OEM EGR for 100.31 that might be the way to go. www.pinnaclenissan.com. click on parts and you'll go to their trademotion site

Let me know if you find anything cheaper. Its good to know

when i had 0302 I replaced egr control selonoid,(aka map/baro switch) it went away. You can easily test that component, its in Haynes. 95 is a bit different from all other years, we have less emission equipment but it may help you. There is another cel code for EGR malfunction (0302=hi-lo flow) Egr valve itself hardly ever breaks down. I have 160k miles and never cleaned it.
