E-brake light

Hi guys,

any 4th gens have a problem with their e-brake light? mine goes off after I release the e-brake like it should. but when I start driving, it comes back on after about 5 minutes. then it'll either stay on or sometimes it goes out by itself.

I don't think my caliper is stuck since the car rolls really easily backward at a light, no groaning sounds at 5mph, etc.

any advice is greatly appreciated.

Larry

you might have a bad E-brake light switch. Next time that happens pull the break up and down and see if it goes away.

Once my master cylinder broke on my 91SE (only 2 wheels were stopping) and the brake light was on for a week. Then I lost pedal pressure and realized something was wrong.

If you can put your car up on a lift or jack up all 4 wheels have someone push the brake pedal and see if all 4 wheels are braking.

I know if your brake fluid is low the e-brake light will come on. Check fluid too.

I take the subway to work, so my max is a weekend driver.

I appreciate your concern for my well-being.

BTW, if your fluid does end up being low, that is typically a sign that your pads are worn (front or rear or both). Before you top off the fluid, check the pads first - if you do install new pads, the fluid level will rise as you retract the caliper pistons.... so you may not need to top it off in that case...
