Strange short somewhere
Strange short somewhere
I parked my maxima a few months ago and began working on it, I went to take it on spin the other night and it all of a sudden wont start. Everything kicks on like it is going to start but nothing happens. The real ***** is when I hooked it up to my jeep to jump it it started just fine. So I have a short somewhere, I figured maybe it is a ground but they seem to be intact. I am waiting for my buddy to come over with his multimeter next weekend but until then any ideas of places that have failed for you guys before.
Do you think that the battery just drained from sitting for serveral month's? That would be my guess. Especially if you were able to jump start it. If a battery sit's to long it will die, even worse it can kill a cell so it won't hold a charge at all. What makes you think there is a short in the electrical system?

The battery is brand new. And the car has power just fine the fuel pump kicks on the starter clicks on all is good the car just wont start as soon as i hook it up to the jeep it starts no problem. It has to be a short.
Sorry it took me so long to reply back. I was reading my manuel to see if there was any info in there that could help. First off what kind of repairs were you making to the max in it's down time?
From what I was reading & your symptoms it seems like your having a voltage issue. That would explain why when you get a jump start the vehicle is able to start. You are deffinitly better off waiting until you have a multimeter to run a few test before you start replacing anything. I'm not so sure that it's a grounding issue, because you mentioned you have lights, power etc. My guess is maybe the voltage regulator on the back of the altinator or maybe a faulty starter solenoid. Do you have a Haynes manuel? If not I suggest picking one up & running a few of the diagnostic test they recommend to check for faulty parts or circuits.
