Thumping Noise, can anyone help
I've been reading through all the posts and haven't come across anything.
I started getting this thumpoing noise coming from up front Bakes, drivetrain area about 3000 miles ago, I've jacked it up and can't find anything loose, brakes look OK & the wheels are tight so I don't think it's bearings.
For a while if I was under power it would thump(at wheel speed (I think) not engine speed) BUT IF i PUSH IN THE CLUTCH the noise would go away, I've jacked it up and ran it in gear but no noise. It does it in a straight line.
I'm out of Ideas, could it be in the tranny???? The shifter works fine and it shifts great
Any Ideas?

Something is twisting under torque ("under power") that doesn't show up while the car is off the ground. I had a problem where my exhaust was bumping on the underbody because the braided expander had split apart which allowed the exhaust to stretch back toward the rear of the vehicle. This caused a support bracket to twist sideways and bump against the underbody. It would only happen on hard right turns.
You may want to just get under your car (with jackstands and all safety precautions, of course!) and shake things around by hand until you reproduce the thump. Look for places where the metal is gouged away indicating an interference that can only happen under load. It may be your exhaust that is bumping when the engine/tranny twist under load. What shape are your engine mounts in, maybe they need replaced?
Gonna be tough to find, but go over the underbody with a flashlight and fine-tooth comb...
