Torque Converter weak?

95 SE auto w/ 127k. I've had the car about 20k, and the tranny has always shifted a little hard (1-2), but thankfully I have never noticed any slipping or other problems...

This summer I've been on several long highway trips, ranging from 5-8 hours at a time. No problems from the tranny.

This weekend, after driving about 3.5 hours, then parking for about 2 hours, and then driving 3.5 hours back home, I think I noticed the torque converter having problems locking up at highway speeds.

I noticed it when going about 50-55 mph, and coasting for a few seconds in traffic (not braking, but with my foot totally off the gas). When pressing the gas to accelerate again, it felt like the TC didn't lock up immediately, but wavered a little bit (mushy feeling). If I gave it enough gas to downshift, then it would lock up after I gained some speed...

Questions: Was this just because of the speeds/conditions I was at (right where the tranny thinks you should be in O/D), or is this the first sign of my tranny dying?

Any help would be appreciated. If my tranny is going, how long do I have left? Will it only happen after driving long distances? BTW, I always keep O/D off when driving around town. Thanks!
