on my other Nissan (86 300ZX Turbo) I removed the resonator in the air intake for a better sound, but on the Maxima the location of the resonator is not as apparent, any guidance would be appreciated.

dude anyone knows that its inline with the intake sorry to bash but its pretty obvious its right after the MAF sensor the big black box between the MAF and the throttlebody, and thats why people buy midpipes like frankencar ones to get rid of it. problem solved. if you dont want to spend alot or make your own go to ebay buy the whole intake setup they got on there its pretty cheap
