i dont think i got room for a splitter. i wish.......... i saw andy's car with one and it looked nice. they should make one that moves up and down with a spring or shock or something to prevent it from brakin when u hit the ground. because i know i WILL rub it all over.

something like this, only perhaps 7 or so inches long, i know i've see them, just don't remember what car they were on
Good idea in principle. The only problem is that the splitter extends beneath the engine bay, so the whole thing would have to have some flex in it in order to bend at the front. I'm not sure if flex would defeat the purpose or not... maybe someone with more expertise could chime in?

if you really wanted to get into it you could mount the splitter on shackles that would let it move up and back in case you hit something, but thats a bit exessive IMO
i don't see the splitter being made as of yet anyways so i'm not gonna stress much about little theoretical details right now
Hey all, sorry i've been out for so long, Mark's wife went to the hospital that sunday and was diagnosed with Cancer. she is recovering now (thank God almighty!). Unfortunately it does not look like we will be making more splitters. Sorry guys. I know I told you we should be able to come through, but under the circumstances, it just might not work. so, I've made a writeup for how to do this and I'm completely willing to answer any questions someone may have for making some of these. also, I am selling my car, (bought a new 06 350z) and for the right price I'd be willing to sell my one-off splitter. send me an email: turbonate@gmail.com if you are interested. I am posting my car in the FS section and I may include the splitter with the car, but we'll see.
ok here goes:
remove all the splash guards, the ones connected to the wheel wells
don't need to be messed with yet, if at all... that's up to you.
make a profile of the front spliter by taping some poster board
together big enough to cover the whole front of the car. then tape
that piece to the bottom of the front bumper and trace out the profile
of the front fascia. then take the board off and copy/trace a line
about 3 inches out from the line you just drew. on the sides, you
only want the splitter to stick out about 1 inch sideways in front of
the wheel. go all the way back to the outside fender of the wheels.
To get the transition between the 1 inch section and the 3inch
section, angle a line getting slightly narower as it moves towards the
front of the car, and round out the outside corner. make sure you get
this transition smoothe, it's probably the most important part as far
as looks go.
under the car, you want to make cutouts for the two tow hooks, the
skidplate, and the y-pipe. make the holes for the skidplate and the
y-pipe plenty wide, as this gave me the most trouble. do this by
picking two reference points onder the body of the car that you can
mark onto the poster board. probably the corners of the wheel well
will be good. from those reference points you should be abble to
measure everything out and copy it to the board. you could use a 3rd
refference from the front bumper if you want; mark one of the places
where the bumper juts up or down under the radiator.
My splitter does not have holes for the tow hooks, because I wanted it
to sit lower than flush with the front fascia. I think that the only
thing you'll need a hole for is the tow hooks, but look around for a
bit and eyeball if anything else protrudes low enough for another
hole.
Cut out the poster board profile and tape it to the bottom of the car
again. get a real good look at it and takes some pictures, i'd like
to see them
. make sure that this is the shape you want, and then
send it in to getcut out. one thing you might consider for extra
strength is to bend the back inch or so down just a bit. if you look
in the pictures to my cardomain site which I posted in the splitter
thread, you can see what I mean. Doing this makes the splitter a
whole lot more rigid.
once the splitter is back from the fab shop. have a budy help you
place it under the car. use a car jack to lift it into place and
double check for size and looks. if the look is right then take it
off and put the six long bolts into the mounting holes for the splash
guards (parts list at the end). Make sure all of these bolts are
strait up and down, this is really important for making the splitter
fit right. The way I made marks to drill for the bolt holes in the
splitter was to put extra long bolts in these six holes and marking on
the splitter where they touched. this worked ok, but if you can think
of somthing better it might save alot of trouble. Drill out the six
holes for the mounting bolts and then mount the splitter to the front
of the car. once it is securely in place mount the top ends of the
turn buckles to the bottom of the bumper.
The turn buckles are mounted using the spare fog light mounting holes.
the L bracket goes first, and then the eye side of the turn buckle is
bolted directly to the L bracket, using apropriate washers. don't
tighten everything down yet, leave it loose enough that you can move
the parts around easily so you can decide where to put the eye-holes
on the splitter. stand in front of the car and try a couple of
different angles with the turn buckles and pick a good place to mount
the eye-holes. mount the eye holes to the splitter without anything
between the eye and the splitter. do this so that the eye is as close
to the splitter as possible. tighten the bolt down as much as
possible, and cut the bottom threads off.
send the whole thing to the powder coaters. make sure and leave the
eye-holes in the splitter so they are the same color, and so they get
glued into place by the poweder coating. Powder coaters use the same
eye-holes to hange there parts up in the oven as we're using, ask them
to make a special note that these need to be coated too. DON'T try
and spray paint. powder coating is the only way to go, because if you
spray paint and the pain comes off, which it does pretty easily, the
aluminum will oxidize and just look nasty. Powder coating should cost
about $50. When picking the splitter up from the powder coaters, make
sure the eye-holes don't get taken off.
so, now you've got your splitter: amaze your-self on some high speed corners!
Parts list:
nuts and bolts- I'm not 100% sure the lengths and sizes are right,
some trial and error may be required.
-two half inch 6m bolts for mounting the L bracket to the fog lamp holes.
-two inch long 6m bolts and matching nuts and washers to mount the
turnbuckles to the L bracket. take the bracket and the turnbuckle to
the bolts section for this.
-six 2.5 inch 6m bolts for mounting the splitter to the bottom of the car.
-six 5/6 inch 6m bolts for measuring out where to drill the bolt holes.
-two turnbuckles, about six inches long with both sides turned out.
one side should have an eye-hole and the other a hook to hold onto the
eye-holes on the splitter.
-two eye-holes with matching bolts (no washers here) for mounting on
the front lip of the splitter.
-two L brackets, about 1" on each side of the L with one hole in each.
There shouldn't be a problem with getting the 6m bolts through.
That should be it! email me if you have any more questions. keep me
updated with how it's comming along!
I hope this will help you guys out. i'm sorry I wasn't able to come through on this one.

I am making one for my 6th Gen Maxima. Great info here in this thread!! Here is what I have so far:

I havent done final trimming of the cardboard , but Im going to trim the sides and then find a piece of ABS plastic and trace the pattern onto it and then make final shape.

Yea skid plates are what I need... they're worse than awful.. I realized it this morning when I got up and saw a puddle of ATF under the drivers side tire... looked underneath and saw it dripping down... Time to go to the dealer tomorrow and buy a new one. The streets here are awful... a few weeks ago I hit another pothole getting off the Brooklyn Bridge that knocked my speaker wires loose from my crossovers, I only had 1 speaker playing in my car... Worst part is, spring time is not too far away... pothole season is beggining all over again
and 215/ 65/ 17 in winter...
THE BQE around the battery tunnel.. that is pretty much on of the worst roads.. and also entrance onto the bridge from tillary street. the road is sooo uneven there..
You get the same downforce with the R34 front bumper in my sign. I had a stock 97 before this car and this car lowered with the R34 front grips like a roller coaster on twisties. Even with bald tires the grip is amazing.
Most people assume it's for show and rice but it actually has a purpose.

Money: A bit more than $100 but I can also make two splitters with the plastic I got. It was about $50 for the huge sheet of plastic, and $50 for the turnbuckles, and a few bucks for the bolts and nuts.
