steering wheel replacement

My airbag in the center panel of the steering wheel deployed during an accident. The dealer only sells the center panel along with the air bag and that costs $$$. I'm thinking of getting rid of the center panel and the steering wheel and replace with a steering wheel from Momo or something. Has anyone replaced the steering wheel before? If so, can you provide the details.

thanks.

I don't want to take any chances on having the airbag deployed/not deployed because of second time installation. I rather not have the airbag if it's no longer the original that manufactured installed.

uhh yeah if air bags are standard equipment I believe by law that you do have to have them. Like removing it is illegal which is why going to an aftermarket wheel is illegal. It has been said by some that you will lose your insurance if you get in an accident and they find out that the air bag wasn't there to work. This is becuase the device was for safety purposes and the car was designed to crash with that device. I would at least call your insurance to find out if they still cover you before something bad could happen.

It is not illegal to remove your airbags.

I hate airbags. I wish they were an option on all cars. Typical misdirected bureaucratic interference.

You must replace deployed air bags and have a working SRS system in order to pass a state inspection.

It is not illegal not to have them.
You cannot pass instpection without them.
You can't drive a car that will not pass inspection.

Kind of leaves you in a catch 22 doesn't it......

btw I hate air bags also... but I also follow the law becuase I can't afford to do otherwise. I drove my first two cars without airbags and after seeing them go off in other accidents I think they have a very limited use as long as you wear your seatbelt which I always do.
