Remote Starter install!!
I have searched everywhere but could not find any post/instructions on installing a remote starter on 99 Max. How difficult is it to DIY? Is it worth paying $300 for installation to best Buy?
Please advise?
Thanks,
S

You need to go to Audio and Electronic forum here. Instruction usually comes with purchase of an alarm but it's usually poorly written. I hear negative feedback on places like Best Buy and Circuit City. If want to install it yourself, you definitely need to do some studying like I have. I installed a Compustar 2wfm. It was my 1st time and was time consuming. I was not extremely difficult. If you want someone to install it, contact Pearl96Max on Audio and Electronic forum. He will charge you way less than $300 on labor and he is a true expert car alarm. It is all worth it.

How difficult for a DIY project depends on you. If you feel comfortable installing a car stereo (without a plug n play harness) for example, a car starter is only marginally more difficult. You will need to take apart some of the interior of the car to access ignition, starter and other wires and know how to test them to make sure you have the right ones, a test light should suffice. You don't really have to do anything in the engine compartment. I've installed some and they are much simpler than installing an alarm system.
I don't think giving Best Buy any money for any installations is worth it. If you don't feel comfortable giving it a try then I'd try some alarm and stereo shops, they'd be cheaper and in my opinion, do better work because that's all they do.
