Lets play 'Name That Noise' again...

Here's the scenario. Whenever I get on it at WOT, after about 5 grand I hear this very raspy/nasty noise. It sounds like the car is about to blow up or something. I have a frankencar intake w/Apexi filter, so could I possibly be hearing the fuel injectors or something? I want to say it's coming from the engine, but it might be from the tranny, I'm not sure. For all I know, this might be normal as I don't beat my car and run it wide open all the time, so I'm not aware of all the stressing sounds at high RPM (usually keep it under 4k).

If so, I have been considering going back to stock intake (Poorman's CAI). Those of you with this setup, are there any sounds at high RPMs?

Any input is appreciated!

Sounds like a leaky y-pipe flex section to me. My stocker was doing this. Although I thought it was pretty obvious that it was the exhaust so that might not be it.

not to distract, but in what situation would you hear the fuel injects? I didnt think in any situation they would be loud enough to be heard from inside the car.

Are you 5-speed, I'm assuming so but want to make sure.

Yup I'm going to agree with Terran.. a leakly Y pipe or even a small leak in any of the gaskets down there will cause a raspy sound.

Have WSP Y pipe... fairly new. Could that be it? It's kinda hard to tell where it's coming from as I cut a 1" hole in my firewall (go ahead and laugh) a while back because I got tired of drilling separte holes for wires. I have noises coming at me from ALL directions. Full exhaust as well. It sounds like it's coming from the engine bay though.

Not sure why I suggested that, just a thought. No, automagic.

Thanks,

Would exhaust wrap help then? Where can I get that? Doesn't that void any kind of warranty with the Y though?

I've got a warpspeed too. I only had it on for like a week before my B-pipe broke, but I believe it got rid of the raspy sound I was having. If this is it, wrap would help. Does wsp even offer a warrenty? I don't remember. It will likely make it rust out faster. I would think you caould get it at any autoparts place...call around. Could the flex section have been bent at any point during install? I believe this can mess it up.

Thanks for the input guys! I guess this is the most likely cause of the sound. I was just worried about it being a serious problem with the engine/tranny.

I'll probably just live with it then, as I don't want to wrap it then it rust out in 6 months.

Thanks again,
drew
