I'm looking to do as many home-made mods to my car as I can. I'm in the process of changing out the rear amber plasitc with custom made ones. I've seen Brian V's air filter rig. It' might be cool if we could get a composit list and I'll build a site around them with links and info. Anybody interested?

If not a whole list, I remember reading about a home made cone filter. Does anybody remember this?

 

me and my friends made a a homemade cai out of some laundary vacumm hose and a matrix air filter. this is how to do it. step 1) remove the air box. 2) remove the battery 3) remove the lower air damm and the box to it. 4) now get the laudary hose which should be like 4-3.5in. wide and how ever long. it is bendable to fit around stuff and etc. you connect the hose to the maf sensor and secure it by a (shyt that thing that holds it a band with the screw on it too and u can adjust it.) welll that thing on one end. you then bring the hose down to the bottom by ur radiator. its bendable so u can adjust it to ur likeness.5) attach the filter to the other end and secure it to. tada you should have a cai just like the hondas do. and it is proven to work too.hehehe. oh and dont forget to make a hole in it for the air sensor. peace brian

 

I'm gonna do something like that with PVC as soon as I can figure out a good filter to use for my home made pop charger. Any suggestions?

 

...creating some custom tailights for my Max. I'm waiting for some paint work to get done on them and I have to wire in new plugs and they will be finished. I'm gonna wait till they're totally done before posting any pics.

 

You know I've done those homemade CAIs on like 10 different cars now. Integra's, Civic's, Maxima's, 240's, Corrolla's, etc. I really don't think it makes any differences on any of the cars really. Even with the air flow with the car moving, it's sucking so hard that it just gets air from all around. You really need the enclosed cai system. The Ram Air style doesn't seem to be too effective.

One thing it may do though. After high speed travelling at constant low RPM's (~80 in 5th) the extra wind into the engine bay may help to cool the intake manifold and intake system a few degrees, thus when you punch it you may gain some power. Remember every 10F you decrease the air temp, you gain 1% power. Now that's 10F right when it gets to the intake valves. Thus, even a CAI doesn't reduce the temp all that much when it gets there.

I'm thinking of going to the stillen intake to gain some more top end, the CAI seems to really have a problem sucking air at 5500+ RPM.

I did this: next to the panel dim **** there is an empty insert (I think it is for gas door release on I30). I popped it out and assembled an red LED and a push button switch (nornally open)on it. I opened my garage door remote control (Genie brand from Home Depot), and soldered two wires from its push button switch to my new push button switch, and two more wires from Genie LED to my new LED. Let all added wires go through behind the panel where the insert is put, then to the left all the way accross then down to where left foot rest pad area. I hide the controler
in the pocket (I called it, don't know the proper name of it). Nothing can be seen except the insert "mod".

I checked its working distance. Not bad at all although no comparison of before and after. Cost of this mod is nearly zero. Please don't laugh at me when I call it "mod". I just want to feel it as a built-in option (actually it's a "throw-in" option of mine).

I have the lightingmotorsports.com adapter and noticed that it does fit correctly but anything can be modified to fit nice write up on it....
