What Octane Gas Do You Burn ???

What Octane gas do you burn and what kind of gas mileage do you get?
I run 87 octane and get 26-28 MPG constantly.

Your 98 is like our 92. We use a different calculation to determine octane.

A VQ will run perfectly fine on 87 octane, but once you accelerate into the higher rpms, the lower octane has a lower knock resistance to the VQ's relatively high compression ratio. Octane basically means knock resistance and a resistance to burn. The higher the octane, the more resistant it is. At WOT with 87 octane, you will not being making as much power as you would with 91-92, but you would be hard pressed to "feel" difference. At the track, you would see the truth though. You'd be .1-.3 seconds slower depending on engine temp, ambient temp, and other conditions. The VQ is more than capable of dealing with low octane gas by simply dialing because ignition advance and richening up the fuel mixture. Anything over 92 octane is overkill in these cars unless you've got an aftermarket ECU.
