Have to replace My Rack&Pinion On My Max "pics included now"

Well i am going to have to replace it. Dont know what happend to it but when i turn the wheel right, something was grinding. So i got the car up on a lift at my school and checked everything out. Everything was tight. Started the car and nothing at all. So the teacher took it around the parking lot casue i asked for his opinion. He came back saying my Rack&Pinion is going to fail soon. The good part is I have another one in my garage so i dont have to buy one but it just had to fail now. why couldnt it fail when i didnt have the engine in the car? less work. Now it will be a pain to get it out. Will start tomorrow. It will be a familiar sight having my car back on jackstands. Oh well. will post pics after i start the job.

My car makes a groaning sound when I make sharp turns. Do you think it is my rack and pinion?

that is what mine sounded like. only when i turn, it makes a sound. it is like groaning/grinding and it is getting to be a paint turning right with that sound. i am glad that i have a spare but i was trying to get it off yesterday and the bolts that hold it were on so tight, that i broke a socket. have to go get one today and continue on. what i think that happend is something inside the rack&pinion. maybe the teeth are grinded of or something like that so metal grinds on metal when i turn.

well elt me tell you that is it a paint to get it off with the engine in the car. the center beam has to come out also and the sway bar also or you cant get it out at all. i got the old one out today and soon the new one will be going in. i hope it will fix the problem.

Are you sure it was the rack? I havent really heard of rack and pinions really failing on our cars, it might of been something as simple as the ball joints...

first of all. i am sure it was the rack. that rack&pinion was hit on the side it was making sounds. and when i took it off the car, i turned it with my hands and you could feel where it get stuck.

and how are you going to tell me that it wont fit? i know what will fit my car and what wont. that sterring rack is off a 2k2 and so is my other. the whole front end suspension is 2k2 on my car. and it did take me a couple of hours to get 2 sterring racks off 2 cars.

Since you have the 2k2 suspension, does your steering get stiffer as you drive faster?

yes i am using the 2k2 SE Maxima subframe, cross member, suspension, sway bar. The 2k2 SE Maxima swaybar and crossmemebr are stronger on the SE maximas then the gxe and gle models. And the sway bar is thicker also. anow my turning radius is the same as a 2k2 maxima and my whole front end is more rigid and stiffer then it was before.
