I'm in process of completing the sound deadening of my car. I did a lot already, as can be seen in the link in my sig, but the culprits that are still left are:
numerous dash rattles. can't seem to find the exact location on those. One of them seems to come from underneath the passenger airbag cover. It is safe to take that piece off to investigate? Also, i need directions on removing ac vents, headliner, etc.
Wind noise..anything over 60mph produces this...which seals should i change and where can i buy them?
I'm looking for a complete list of TSB manuals that are sent out to dealers that tell them how to fix the rattle/squeak problems. I saw a list like this for a 2k max, but i wanted the same list for my 97. Also, in those tsb, nissan mentions various parts such as felt tape and felt pads to attach to various door and body panels to stop rattles/squeaks. Where can i purchase these items? Money is not a big issue as long as i get rid of ALL rattles in my car. It sucks to have a $25,000 car and have a whole bunch of annyoing rattles.
Thanks for help...

That rattle may be coming for the rightmost vent cover. Push on the cover, it usually has give and creaks. As for the wind noise, it seems to have something to do with the shape of the mirrors. Try driving with them folded in and see if you have the same noise.

Question:
Does the noise you hear at 60mph happen worse when it is cold outside? Say around 45 degree F and below? Does it sound like it is coming from the right hand side of the dash? If it does, I don't think it is from inside the car. I think it is from vortec effect causing a vacuum and sucking the weatherstrip from the firewall side of the hood to flap. Just my 2 cents worth. Then again, I just woke up too. I have had a noise happen like that from the passenger side dash area when it is cold outside.

Remove both battery cable connections at the battery and wait three minutes. That will disable the air bags.

Also, i need directions on removing ac vents, headliner, etc.
Elsewhere in this post you say "Money is not a big issue ..." Okay, spend some money and buy the factory service manual. It will answer these questions with words and diagrams.

A word of caution: it's difficult to install a headliner without any wrinkles. Don't remove that headliner unless you are certain it is necessary.

Wind noise..anything over 60mph produces this...which seals should i change and where can i buy them?
You should change only weatherstripping which is damaged. If it's not damaged replacing it won't help. You might be able to improve the noise exclusion properties by adding a second barrier. I'm not aware of anything available "off the shelf", so you will have to do this by trial and error. Generic foam-rubber weatherstripping can be bought at home improvement superstores (Home Depot, etc.).

You might want to subscribe to a for-fee service such as AllData http://www.alldata.com/ For $20/year you will have access to a wealth of Technical Service Bulletin and other "insider" information.

Also, in those tsb, nissan mentions various parts such as felt tape and felt pads to attach to various door and body panels to stop rattles/squeaks. Where can i purchase these items?
Visit a car audio installer and see what he has. Then visit a good auto trim and upholstery shop and see what he has. You can fasten felt with a spray-on adhesive such as 3M 77 http://www.artsuppliesonline.com/cat...m?cata_id=6100

... Money is not a big issue as long as i get rid of ALL rattles in my car. It sucks to have a $25,000 car and have a whole bunch of annyoing rattles. ...
I'm worried by the phrase "get rid of ALL rattles". If you are aiming for perfection and nothing less will do, you are bound to be dissatisfied. The Maxima is a great car for the money but it's not an Infiniti Q45, it's not a Rolls-Royce, and no amount of add-on sound deadening will make it equal to those more expensive cars.

I paid $119 for mine.

In the USA ...

Dyment Distribution Services
20770 Westwood Road
Strongsville, Ohio 44136
1-800-247-5321
(Dyment accepts payment by credit card)

In Canada ...

Nissan Canada, Inc.
P.O. Box 1709, Station "B"
Mississauga, Ontario L4Y 4H6
1-800-387-0122

If new manuals for your model are no longer available, you may be able to
find one on the secondary market.

This fellow deals in used factory service manuals.

This is another good source of used factory service manuals:
****son Street Bookshop
325 West ****son
Fayetteville, AR 72701
dsbooks@ipa.net
I bought one from ****son and recommend them.
The book was fairly priced, in good condition, and shipped promptly.

Keep an eye on the eBay auction site. They often have manuals for sale.

In the search field, enter: nissan manual -owner

Seems like some kind of automatic cleanup editing is automatically done on posts. It had an unwanted effect on my previous post. I made no off-color remarks. I tried to give a legitimate reference to a bookstore called the
D-i-c-k-s-o-n street bookshop located on West D-i-c-k-s-o-n Street.

Please start a new thread with your question, and make the Subject line descriptive... something like Oil found in intake duct. I'm not busting your crank, there are good reasons for this request.

1) This thread started out with a question about sound deadening. Your question is on an entirely different topic. It is preferable to confine one thread to one topic.

2) With a descriptive Subject line your question will draw the attention of people who have the same problem or who have solved the same problem. That's the strength of this forum, many Maxima owners pooling their ideas and experience. No one person knows it all.

Stop wasting your time and money...Save up and buy a 540i or something of that nature. No matter what you do, there is always going to be rattles and wind noise. It's a f*cking NISSAN. You want perfection go BMW or Mercedes.
