I've been dealing with this problem for about 1 1/2 years.

What you do is with the drivers door open, turn your key to the on position. Then press the switch for the dome light about 7 times fast. What that does is it puts the airbag computer into diagnostic mode. Hopefully, the code will eventually go away. It doesn't (rarely actually) go away immediately. Believe it or not, my lamp sometimes starts flashing if I recline the drivers seat, or move it. So I try to leave it alone. Seems that once it's reset, it will stay away for months. Good luck.

P.S.--if you see the lamp start blinking again, as opposed to flashing the diag code at you, repeat the process. You want to leave it in diag, as that's the only way it will stop. If it's just blinking, it will go on forever until reset.

Dome light? The one in the center of the car or the one by the rear view mirror?

he's probibly talking about the light switch on the inside of the door jam that lets the car know the door is open, if you cant find the little button, i guess you could just open and close the door 7 times real fast.....

or you can pay around $65 at a nissan dealer to find out what the problem is.
$65 seems alot but we're talking about air bags; it saves llives.

yeah well problem, my dealership charges 85 bucks just to LOOK at the problem....and my airbag is fully functional, i just want that light to shut off, i can glue the lid back down.....

ALSO...is this my fault? i mean, the airbag isnt supposed to do this when u hit a pothole....thats like if i make an abrupt stop my engine flies out....it shouldnt be my fault of something like this happens....isnt it their fault?

Do you know for a fact that the airbag is fully functional??? I mean the likelihood is low, but hitting that pothole COULD have screwed something up here (I know I'm really stretching it here.) But my point is, with something as important as an airbag, I would have it checked by a professional. Airbags saved my life, they are nothing to screw around with.

You're going to have to pay the dealer the $$$$$$ to have it checked. That's the only way.

My god....no....I figured most of you more experienced ppl would know but I guess not...mine came on for no reason one day and I did the reset below and it has never came back on....here is what to do:

Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button located low on the B pillar, a button which is pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the Driver's Door Switch (DDS).

Turn the ignition from OFF to ACC. Press the DDS at least 5 times within 7 seconds after turning the ignition switch ACC. Turn the ignition half way between taking you key out and ACC...the off position. Close the driver's door. Start the engine.

I tired this numerous times and it finally worked and hasn't come back on in over 6 months.....try various key position because the HOW TO's is actually no 100% accurate....I was going to do an exact write-up way back when but I forgot.....Post and let me know

Ive got it blinking too. I looked at the previous service records on my car, the airbag light was going off at 30k miles and they had to replace the entire driver side airbag. Cost? Around $800, but it was under warranty. Now its 63k miles and its blinking again, and no warranty.

I've heard that its just a loose connection, cause I noticed it after moving the front seats around, and the connecting is under there. So Im gonna play around with the seats one day, cause I tried it once and it went away, but came back a couple weeks later.

Just an FYI - if the light is on, that means the airbag system is disabled...

No dont rip it out....look on the pillar of your door...when you open the door near the bottom there is a little **** that is pushed in when the door is closed......FIND IT...it isnt that hard....then it will go back to normal. The button is the DDS Drivers door switch....you need a pic or something?

Trust me I know the way nissan is and once the light is off the airbag system works fine....just find the button and follow the **** above.

It doesn't "kick in" ... if the light is still on then you did it wrong....read above exactly...go in ur car and turn key to ACC. Press door switch 5 or more times within 7 secs. Then turn the key to the off position...which is halfway between ACC and taking ur key out. Then close the door....start the car.....repeat until the light goes away when u start the car.

If there is an actual problem - not a transient one - the light will "never" go away - so don't know if repeating is going to get you anywhere... maybe do it a couple of times so that you know you followed the procedure correctly, but beyond that, you could sit there all night and on startup the problem will be redetected and the ABS light will stay on.

I had the same problem but the only thing that reset my airbag light was to turn the ignition key to the full on positiion without starting the car. then pressing the switch on the door button as explained in prvious responses then back to off position between on and acc. closed door and started car the light came on for a second or two and it went off. I hope this will help, I do want to thank every one in this MAXIMA group you guys are great really good help. Thanks again.

FOLLOW WHAT IT SAYS FIRST.....this heppened to me and I took it in and got it diagnosed for free and they said I needed a new passenger seat airbag because it was faulty.....SOOOOO many people have this problem out of nowhere....mine just happened one day...the SAME EXACT problem you have TJ_Max and I fixed the light by doing EXACTLY what Reinaldo says above in his quote.....DONT replace it cause SOOOO many ppl have had this problem and it will only be faulty again down the road if you do. The WORST that could happen is the SEAT SIDE airbag doesn't work but once you get the light off the system is FULLY FUNCTIONAL again which means everything works except if there is truly a fault and in that case it is only the passenger side SEAT airbag that won't go off but this rarely helps anyways....it is only the front airbags that are the best saver.

Im just trying to save u money because it CAN be done cause you have the same exact problem as me and about 40% of other 4th gen max owners have had.....I will take pics or w/e but DONT waste ur money!!!!

Umm..that doesn't always work. You can only try and reset it so many times before you realize, "Hmm..this isn't gonna work.."
