Resetting the ECU

Found 2 links, both are dead. Installing my intake this weekend, so kinda need to know.

Resetting the ECU only clears stored error codes, it does not in any way change or erase stored operating parameters.

In fact, the Haynes shop manual doesn't recommend disconnecting the battery for long periods of time because the ECU can lose that information over time. It goes further to say that if that happens your car may run rough until the ECU relearns the cars correct operating parameters.

if you must... disconnect the battery, hit the brakes a couple of times and that will clear and "residue" energy that is left in the car.

You really don't need to reset the battery to do the intake.

my 1997 and 1999 Nissan factory service manual both agree that unplugging the negative battery for 24hr will wipe stored info... except black box info.

24 hr is a bit too much. Two minutes at most is good enough.
