What is up with this horrible GAS mileage??? what u guys gettin?
best milage on hwy 526 miles. not a fluke. i drive between vegas and seattle a few times a year. that milage is from grants pass oregon to just outside fresno ca. city i do 420, 365 if i drive crazy.
I get around 350, I'd say maybe 70% of that is city, the rest is highway. Maybe I can get better after I change the fuel filter (which hasn't been done in ages). I also drive like I stole it, so it's not too bad I'd say. 500 is crazy, I wish I could get that!
This is my case exactly with a 98 SE 5sp. I can get about 450 before a fill up on the highway.
I get much better MPG when using Chevron 93 supreme.......I don't know why you guys consider SHELL is better in MPG , it's lessss with me than Chevron
350 MPG Chevron 93, all city (stop and go)s
290 MPG SHELL 93,all city (stop and go)s
350 MPG Chevron 93, all city (stop and go)s
290 MPG SHELL 93,all city (stop and go)s
Yeh well we don't have Chevron up here, so Shell is the best I can get. Treats me well. Plus I don't drive like a retard.
I noticed with my Max MT if I keep it under 70 on the highway, I will get nearly 28-29 mpg. This is only possible if I keep my foot off the accelerator (and we know how hard that is when driving a fast Max!!!!!) Most of the time I can get an average of 25-27 mpg and my car has 169K on it.
I believe in regular maintenance and premium fuel (91-93 oct) for max performance. IMO

i did some more work to my car, tune up, 00VI install, took a trip to Texas and got 455 to a fill up. That's with 3 people in the car and 2 suitcases. Going about 75-80...yes that's right. 455 to a full tank...1999 auto with 150k miles on it now. How you like them apples..
I've been using Road Trip on the iPhone since October last year and tracking every fill during that time (18k miles) I'm glad to say my stock 97 SE with currently 205k on it fluctuates between 22.6 (pulling a trailer - not in OD) and 29.7 (serious tailwind) but averages over that duration at 26.46mpg. That's all 90/91 Octane (assuming gas stations in Canada also use the RON+MON/2 method).
Non-maintenance work I've had to do over the life of the car...
- Starter
- Coolant Thermostat Valve
- Front Struts
- Front Rotors
- CV Axles
I've never risked pushing myself beyond 460 miles on a single tank. Usually I chicken out between 400 and 430.

i have a 2k max n i get about 300 miles per tank. i have done minor mods, intake, catback n sitting on factory 17's right now again, will be putting 18's on there very soon, when i had 20's on there i was getting about 240 miles per tank.
LOL I managed to get 450+ miles on a tank. Granted I averaged about 30 mpg.....
I could easily have gone 500 miles according to how much I put back into the tanke compared to the capacity (18.5 gallons) but I chickened out.
I generally average 25 mpg, or 400 miles on a tank.
