Need advice on Stereo - 95 Max GXE

Just bought a 95 Maxima GXE with only 47,000 miles…yehaw!!!. And yes, believe it or not, the previous owners are in their 70’s and primarily putted around town. They bought it new in Sept 04 and it still looks new now!!!

Anyway, the car has the OEM AM/FM Cassette. I definitely want to buy a CD and can easily get the add on OEM CD unit. Should I just stick with that idea or pursue finding a bose unit am/fm CD? If I can find a Bose system, would it be best to get new speakers as well, or will the current speakers be sufficient?

Also, I have installed a CD unit before in a 96 Max, but recall it taking me sometime to figure out how to remove the panel etc. Are there instructions on how do properly do this somewhere???

Many thanks!!!

Did you mean they got the car in Sept 95 new? I just installed a stereo in a 96 Max and I can give you a brief description of what you need to do. I would change it to an aftermarket Head Unit and change the speakers. Alpine, Pioneer or Eclipse seem to be the brands according to the audio crowd on another board. You should really think about what you are trying to achieve. I don't think the Bose route is wise. All of the speakers in the bose system are amplified. This involves running power to every speaker location for the amps. It can be done but with the time it would take you to do it you would be better off just changing to another HU and changing the speakers.

1. Thanks for the link!!
2. For what it’s worth, the previous owners did purchase it new in Sept “94”. Still can’t get over the condition of the car..paint is in perfect condition (zero scratches, dings) the interior is perfect, new Michelon tires have about 3K on them, all fluids are clean, and runs like a top!
3. Thanks for the heads up on the BOSE stuff. Will definitely stay away from that. I believe I’m just going to buy new OEM add on CD player and call it a day (available on ebay for about $100)

How much did you buy it for? I would go with an aftermarket hu.

They were asking 6K but we settled on $5,200.
I don't know a hell of a lot about the aftermarket stuff and the installation part, especiallly with wiring adapters and making it look and fit right. Leaning toward the OEM because I know it will fit perfectly and the install woud be relatively simple.

It'll be worth your time to go aftermarket, hu and speakers. If you're going to be tearing it all apart, might as well replace it with good stuff.

I like my Xterra radio/6cd. Takes 2 slots, but nice to have 6 cds at your fingertip.
