Seafoam spots a problem. Now what?

I ran seafoam thru the max (brake booster) last weekend, and it started smoking from my engine bay. I noticed the smoke was coming from under the heat sheild coverint the front exaust manifold. Seafoam was spewing out as well..

My friend recomended it was just a gasget that needed to be replaced. But how can i do that? do i have to take out the whole exaust piping to replace this thing? Could it be more than just a gasget?

BTW, it also makes a put put put sound when exelerating from the front of the car, and when its in drive u can hear it rattling a bit from the outside of the car. Maybe the bolts came loose?

I need help!!! argghh...

exhaust leak. Identify the source. If it's a gasket, replace. If it's the pipe, replace.

No one is going to be able to give advice if the source of the leak is unknown

yup, gasket is leaking, exhaust might be leaking, or you might have a leak somewhere in the engine. hopefully, it's just the gaskets. you might want to go to a muffler shop to replace them, it's a ***** when i had to do mine.

and that put put sound is normal when you run seafoam. there are too much carbonation impurites picked up by the seafoam. just press the pedal to rev the engine a couple of times. it should turn out pretty good after that.

It's the crush ring between the y-pipe and the exhaust manifold. Time to get a new y-pipe.

the put put put sound happens before and after the seafoam tho, I know what it sounds like with seafoam getting sucked in lol...

As for the gasket for the y-pipe, isnt that lower in the engine bay? the smoke was coming from under the heat shield from where the pipes meet the exaust manifold...correct me if thats wrong as realy dont know..

naa, ive heard the sound b4...thought it was normal...

The seafoam helped me realize what the sound actually was. its a little bit louder now since i guess the deposits that built up were burnt up by the seafoam....

At first i thought it did lol...

As for the FAQs...i didnt think exaust leaks were covered in there...i guess a y-pipe install is in there...but why would i look at that? but thanks for the tip i guess it would help me understand what he is talking about..

What does this have to do with what my problem is? I have a cali spec max, so the y-pipe doesnt have the last bend, so i am assuming that it is defanantly no where near where my leak is. Like i said this leak is coming from the front exaust manifold. looks like somewhere between the stock headers and the manifold. i cant really tell because its under the heat shield and i havent taken it off...

Thanks for trying to help tho, any other peices of advise?

and what about the exaust manifold bolts snapping.. could this be a possibility?

funny you posted this, I just had the same problem, while with the open hood I saw the smoke coming out from the engine, and I tried to look for the place, but for me it seamed like it was the smoke coming from the exaust tip, but the wind was bringing the smoke up trough the engine bay. at least that is what I thought.

BTW I said funny because I did the seam foam, just last week also, on this past few warmer days.

Yea, at first i thought it was from the tail pipe...but then i looked under the car and noticed a leak (seafoam) i spottet where it was coming from and it was coming from behind the heat sheild in the front of the engine. Kinda scared me lol..

Put more in, put the car on ramps, secure very well, start car, make smoke, look to see exactly where it's leaking.

I was going to do this, but can you take off that heat sheild without taking EVERYTHING out? I have never worked down there b4 so i dont really know what to expect.

if you do use the seafoam, itll tell you around wwhere the leak is coming from. then worry about if its behind the heat shield or not, because i think you'd have to take it off anyway if you can see thats where its coming from.
