scary thing, please can some one explain if it is bad or not.

ok today I decide to burn tires while accelerating (showing off to my friends)
and I put in first gear, starty peeling, change to secong, (ususaly I still peel off a little), but this time it was different, I felt no power on second gear, (I red lined tough) and changed to 3rd, when I did that i also notice barely no power, then it was when I smeeled a VERY VERY STRONG SMELL OF BURNED RUBER I imediatly stop accelerating, but the smell was ver strong, I had to open all my windows....
even now after 3 hours, I open the hood andI can smell it. I'm afraind I have done something really bad, but what did I do.

at first I thought it was just the smell of burned tires, but my tires weren't warm (not alot or peeling)

anyone knows If I damage my transmision,
BTW 189K engine + trans.

Yup, deep fried clutch.

One more example of why burnouts on street tires are ALWAYS a bad idea.

so, can I still drive, or how would I go on replacing these on this cold witer days.

who could help me fix this,
how much for new clutch stuff?
would have a over filled clutch fluid resevoir done that?

but here is one thing, there is no slipage of gears. I stop the car, put in 2nd and the car moves, I put in 3rd or 4th and the car also moves.
ooh wait is that for the transmision gear test.. never mind.

As far as I know you can drive all you want with a bad clutch but I wouldn't wanna be around when you drive 100 miles from home and it just completely goes all the sudden then your SOL. I know from experience its not fun driving 40 miles home when you can't go above 40 MPH. If you aren't doing the job yourself its pretty costly. I might be wrong but I would guess what like $600-800 I think. Unless you can find someone on here that will do it.

its called a life lesson, why woudl you be abusive to your car when your poor right now? its beyond me...

you fried your clutch, you wont get any power in any gear past 2nd if you accelerate mildly, i toughed it out for like 3 days and then got it changed beacuse it was horrible to drive so slow.

not to sound stupid, but what difference does it make with street tires and drag tires? is it because the street tires grab more or something?

Don't sweat it. I did that once a couple years back. It smelled funny for a couple hours but I drove on it for another 20 thousand miles. The clutch still worked fine when I switched it out at 130000; just thought it was time.

I had a 67 Falcon, 289 with "3 on the tree", back in 67, LOL.

Peeled out all over the place. 6 months later, needed a new clutch, not covered under warranty, $90 (probably like $900 today). I've had 19 stickshifts since then, one that I put 175,000 miles on (Volvo), but no more clutches.

I taught my ex to drive stick in 79, my son tells her how bad she is, she is, but then she's usually doing me a favor when I ride with her, so I keep my yap shut. She's bought 2 new clutches in the last 10 years. Oh well, live and learn.

If you have it replaced professionally, $900 plus.

naw... it's not that expensive. I had it done at a local shop for $525; parts and labor.

I know you dont want to hear it but Good Job, its not good to do that.

My friend was spinning his back tires (RWD Camaro RS) in the sand, he was doing it for his film project, few days later slave cyclinder gave out on him, we had to tow his car with an Envoy then he took it to a shop.

New Clutch job would be atleast $500. so expect to atleast pay that much.

ok, thanks guys.
I am going to look into driving my car for a few more 1000 miles if it still works....
save some money and put a new clutch and maybe a flywheel. might as well do some power mods right?
I just don't like the idea that it is winter time and my car woun't be 100% functional for any quick safety reaction. (eg. avoiding accidents)
well, thanks for the information guys

I burned rubber once, never did it again after the clutch hinted me of how bad it is to do it...funky clutch smell (but went away after a few min.). Clutch job would be around $400 - $500, the clutch alone will cost a few bills and then you got labor. Mine has 133k miles, on original clutch, no slippage whatsoever but I'm dying to change it already because of a very very minor rear main seal leak.

i have been driving my car for months with a blown clutch. yea it sucks, but driving like a grandma has its advantages.....better gas milage, no speeding tickets, and an excuse to take someone elses car. Next week im replacing it yes in the cold (maybe i buy a heater for the garage), finally! I cant wait to have my car back.

drive it till its really dead.

if u drive ur car hard like that, u might wanna get a stage 1 clutch it will last u way longer than the OEM, i have a exedy stage 1 and i love it, but dont try racing it alot and beling out with it bc u might drop ur tranny.

good luck

Guinader man, you need to relax a bit. first the speeding ticket now this? you should be ok driving with it like that for a while. Make sure to have flywheel resurfaced when you have your clutch replaced and just get an OEM replacement, that's my plan. the Stock clutch is stout not when you throw boost at it but for a NA bolt on's my stock clutch has seen 15 back to back passes at NE dragway and hours of traffic absue. the Key is not to do burn outs they are pointless and your not really going anywhere...
