question about exhaust and y pipe.

i have already stated in previous posts that i am a newbie and i know u guys are fed up with the newbie exhaust questions but i guess i have not been learning as much as i thought but i was wondering what is better and or cheaper ....buying a cat back exhaust or buying everything seperatley like a muffelor from one place or brand and an exhaust tip from another place and so on?? i also would like to know...i see alot of y pipes for sale with pipes that are 2.5 inches but would like to have an exhaust system with a 3 or 3.5 inch exhaust to it.. how would i do this...do i just have to buy a y pipe with bigger pipe size or is there a "converter"...sorry for newbie question but i got cars on the brain and im just tryin to get started anyway i can..

ps i love the cars on the site and wouuld like to know from all the greedy guys on the org which is better sp or sp2....what makes the 2 better and different from the first and what exhaust system should i go with

thks

Getting a universal muffler (I like my dynomax superturbo) and a custom made B-pipe will be the cheapest.

Unless you are boosted the 2.5" is the ABSOLUTE BIGGEST you should go. (if you just like the look then get a bigger tip).

The SP2 is stainless steel. The SP is not. I don't know if there are any other differences.

Oh yeah, stupid noob...JK .

SP2 muffler lip is curled. Oh yeah, shorter resonator.

may not be what you want to do but keep an eye out in the 4th gen classifieds section and maybe you can get some higher priced exhaust parts for cheap or affordable prices. if i was trying to save money i would just take the route that would save me money. i personally like catbacks and the headers for the 4th gen, but you cant go wrong with the cattman or warpspeed y pipe. i dont know much about the budget products but lots of maxima owners go that route also. i would just buy used or try to get a bargin on a ypipe and a catback.

if the sky is the limit:
headers and catback

if you are on a budget :
ypipe and catback

good luck, not to much to worry about your going to get a performance boost from any of this stuff. i would however choose my catback wisely if you go with a ypipe (if sound is an issue)

*raising hand slowly to see if i am alone!?!...

i'd get headers if i was supercharged... but they don't really appeal to me for about $1200 installed... ill take $350 for the y-pipe anyday!

HoLLaAtMyMaXx, just read around a lot... especially on maxmods... they give you the pros and cons of each exhaust... every mod has pros and cons and you have to decide which ones you can deal with and which ones that you would rather pay more for someting better...
