Battery Drain

Just Joined Maxima.org And Was Hoping You Could Help Me With A Problem. I Have A 96 Maxima And The Battery Drains Within 10-14 Days With The Car Being Driven 2-3 Times A Week. The Alternator Checked Out And The Battery Is New. I Put A 12v Test Light Between The Neg Battery Post And Cable To Locate Circuit That Is Draining The Battery. The Drain Is Coming From The Bcm And The Battery/ign Fuse. Both Have To Be Removed For The 12v Test Light To Go Out. Can You Help? What Function Does The Bcm And The Battery/ign Serve? What's My Next Step In Stopping The Battery Drain?

Thanks

Take the batter to pep boys or something and have it tested. Just because it's showing 12V with a test light, doesn't mean that it has a complete charge. It may only be holding a partial charge which would cause it to go dead quickly.

Hmmm ... did you actually have the battery checked? Only other thing I can think of is that you could have a bad voltage regulator, or something may not be turning off when you remove the key from the ignition.

a test light is not an accurate way to check for battery drain, you need to check it with an multimeter in the A (current/amp) setting. contact a nissan dealer to find what the max allowable drain is on the battery, it should be fairly low. there is always going to be some drain on a battery. first thing to check would be any aftermarket accessories in your car, after that, just like you were doing, pull fuses one by one. the bcm (body control module) will always need some power for memory purposes (clock, radio, alarm etc.)

I had that problem and Come to find out the light in the glovebox was faulty and always stayed on, replaced and everything is fine now. Have you checked your ECU for a code yet? good luck.

Something is not turning off and it is connected to the BCM(?) fuse circuit and the Battery/IGN(?) fuse circuit.
