E Break
Brake fluid level in the reservoir may be low. You may have a sticking caliper in the rear, or hung parking brake cable, even though you don't notice it at first. Look for signs of excess brake dust on one or both rear wheels.
P.S. It's a parking brake...

Like Miles said, your brake light will come on if you have problems in general with your braking system.
Some problems you should check for:
Low pressure in the hydraulic lines
Too much pressure in the lines
Air in your hydraulic lines
A leak in your lines (which would cause low pressure)
Low brake fluid
Put the car up on jack stands, take the wheels off and visually inspect your calipers and see how worn your pads are (check for fluid leaking, etc). Also check the fluid level, it could be low to even over filled.

One other thing. I remember a while back I had my brake fluid flushed and when I drove off the light was on. It turned out to be the little floating plastic thing in the reservoir. It was stuck toward the bottom. Once it was allowed to float up to the surface, the light went out. I do not know if you added any fluid or not, or flushed your system, but if you did get into the reservoir it may be the issue.

Thee brake fluid reservoir half full could be an indication the pads are wearing thin. It was an indication for me. The brake light went on. The reservoir was half full, the front pads were 90% worn. Time to change the pads. Pushed the caliper pistons back in. The fluid level in the reservoir raised back up. ( I didn't bleed the brake fluid).
