emerg. brake light always on

My emergency brake light on the instrument panel is always lit, even when I take off the emergency brake. What are the order of things that I should troubleshoot to remedy problem? Thanks.

Check the brake fluid and if that doesn't work then take off the center console. There's a sensor that is supposed to be hooked up to the brake so that the light goes on only when the e-brake is up. Check that bad boy also.

thanks guys, i appreciate it. I don't have an owner's manual, so I really should get one. Sorry for the stupid questions.

Like they say...There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Do what everyone else says. If you notice your battery light coming on too, it probably means your alternator is shot.

Actually you guys are missing the easiest answer...
You need new brake pads.
The light comes on when the fluid is low.
The fluid is low because there is a leak or you pads are getting worn out...

you can't just keep adding brake fluid!!! You'll end up being full of fluid and have no pads left!! You can't stop on brake fluid alone...

The easiest answer is to fill the fluid then change your pads. You can get cheap fluid at AutoZone for like $3. But while pouring some cheap fluid into your master cylinder for the time being you should definetly be ordering new pads.

I had this happen too me as well, the light came on and my fluid was low. But it was because my brakes were so shot and the pads were basically gone. Replaced everything about 3 weeks ago, gotta love Brembos and MM Pads.

Mine came on for a couple of days and I figured that I probably needed new brakes. A couple of days later the battery light came on with it though....Alternator went bad on me. I hope this isn't your problem but I wanted to point out that possibility.
