Top end noise

I have 117xxx on my 96SE and it kinda has some top end clatter. Is this normal for these engines or should they run silent. I'm afraid to get on it and screw something up. Thanks

that seems like too few miles to be valve noise. maybe the timing chain tensioner? can you listen for where it comes from, or describe the sound?

I assume it's coming from the top of the engine not the front of the passenger side timing chainncover? If it's loud ticking then it's just noisy injectors, which is a 4th gen trait and quite normal. Noisy valves are not that common, maybe time to switch to 5w30 Mobil or Amsoil and see what happens? Also, make sure you're using the proper Nissan oil filter, cheap ones can cause oil starvation.
