KNOCK SENSORS? What's the problem?
I am new to the forum and I have to say I am surprised at reading about all the knock sensor issues.
I've had a 93 Max GXE since 93, it has 198k miles. I love it but road salt has taken it's toll.
In the past month I just bought 2 newer ones, a 98 with 55k and a 97 with 68k miles.
The 93 seems just as strong as it was the day I bought it, I always run 92 RON fuel minimum, and I am not aware of any sag in power as it climbs the rpm range.
I haven't driven the two "new" ones hard enough to notice a sag in power if the ECU intervenes with safe map reduced advance, though I do notice the one tends to drop a gear much easier than the other, as you attempt to accelerate in 4th OD.
Is it common to have to replace the sensor periodically? Is there something about the installation or maintenance of the sensor that you can overlook (like if you don't put oil in your rear struts when you install your new shocks, they'll wear out way early because of lack of heat transfer? I read this in the KYB instructions when I last changed them.)
