How to tell my engine is knocking?
How to tell my engine is knocking?
I put in the resistor replacement for KS (untill the weather gets better) and my 95 SE has been running great-- good gas milage, restored power, etc. But after reading some thread, I started to worry about the engine knocking. My question is, what kind of sound is a engine knock exactly, loud? faint? metallic? thump? consistant? occasionally? Any other common symptons associated with engine knocking, like steering wheel vibration at idle (that's what I have but it could be a bad engine mount)?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Knocking will create a very distinct very audible rattle. It will be a metallic sound....and is basicly the piston slamming around in the bore and the connecting rod wrist pins/bearings making metal to metal contact with other parts.
I don't in general condone your temporary band-aid, so recommend you stick to good gas in the meantime. The knock sensor is to protect the engine from bad gas, or excessive over use.

Thanks man. That put my mind at ease.
I know the resistor is a temp fix. Just ordered a new KS and waiting for the weather to get better so that I can put it on.
By the way, anyone know a good source for a new engine mount? I have been seaching ebay and GD for a month now. Nothing. I have a slight vibration idling and sloppy take-off(clutch pedel shakes and took a full second to engage first gear, all other gears super smooth at any speed) ao I guess it's probably the mount.
