Not a big fan at all. I liked them when they first came out. Than one of my good friends got one. Paid almost 40g's with all the waranty's and crap. Put on a nuespeed intake and short shifter. Let it break in for recuired period than proceded to get absoulutley killed by my 95 maxima with a 130,000 miles. His car even lost to my buddy's 97 maxima with just intake and y pipe. He even let another driver drive his car. They are just kinda over rated in my opinon. I even raced him from a light and caught him befor i hit 3rd. I've beaten two of them now. Not saying maxima's are the ****, just saying that car's not. He only has 4000 miles on his car and it's been to the shop 4 times. Turns out it was missing bolt's from the tranny case. They fixed it but it's still crap. I heard they were made in mexico not germany to. Don't know if it's true. I'm sure I might get flammed for this cause the org seems to like vw's. I just really don't.

I'm not a fan of VW at all either, I like the look of the Golf 2 dr, and get some serious mods into it, it should be a fun car and sick in the corners too but, havent driven one yet, something about VW just turn me away.

The Passat and Toureg are the only VWs still made in Germany. All others are made in Mexico I believe.

The aforementioned car is very sweet indeed - love the performance, handling, looks, accessories. But as far as the exhaust note - I don't think it sounds that good at all.

Turn a corner at speed, especially with a bump mid turn and your max will be in a ditch while the R32 will be long gone...

No offense but if you haven't driven one you shouldn't pass too much judgement. That car was WAY more fun to drive than my 1995 max 5 spd that's mildly modded. It's all about the curves with the r32, not absolute speed although it is a fast car for sure.

Actually, the R32 is made in Germany, (Czech Republic assembly). The cars came here with roughly 50 miles on them. The reason is they went through a thorough test drive to make sure everything was go, I'm surprised your friend had those bolts missing. All other GTI's are now made in Mexico which I think sucks. I wasn't a fan of Golfs either, but my brother got a 2002 VR6 GTI 6spd., and it's a terrific car with a really nice interior. The only thing is it already had a couple minor problems...plastic clips on side windows and shifter breaking, and a temp really making the car think it was overheating.

As for the Max being quicker than an R32, I just don't see how it's possible. They have it listed 0-60 6.0-6-5 and 1/4 14.2-14.5. My cousin bought one when it came out, and I really love the sound. I'm acutally surprised most don't like the sound. It's not too much different than a G35/350Z sound, only deeper. He paid $30,600. I can't beat him, not even on a roll at highway speeds where the R32 will slowly walk away. His launches are pretty good too. I have a 99 5 spd. Now if you are driving a 2002+ Max, different story. I think the R32 is a terrific car, and there are serious mods to make it go really fast. The drive and feel are great. The steering wheel feels so right when you wrap your hands around it, and it also handles great. In the price range I would pick it over an EVO or STI who only have speed going for them, but a G35 might be a different story. I think the G35 might be a little more complete car with better reliability.

i have a decently modded 5 speed max and i've raced a r32 and he catches and passes me after a couple of seconds. i know from a stop he would kill me so im suprised that you n your friend were able to beat one so easily. unless it was one of the auto versions if the exist. but i hate hatch-backs but for some reason a awd, 240 6 sp car vw does sound intresting to me even if it is a hatch.

Well for the 40g's, he over paid and bought every waranty. I have driven them. Two on them on several different times. Liked the seats, hated the interior, hated the sound it is far from deeper than a z it's actualy really high pitched imo. Hated the peformance, liked the handeling. And for the corners I'll just pull out the tt 300z and not only hang with him in the corners but rape him in the straight's. And as far as beating him goes its not far fetched for light 5spd 95 to beat one. I have some pretty good mod's. I live almost 5000 feet above sea level and my car managed a best of 14.7 at 95 with a 2.39 60ft. And that was on slipping clutch and crappy crappy tires. I'll be the first to admit that's not a great time, but the two people that I have seen run ther r32's have never ran faster than 14.9 and have 92 or so trap. Take both car's to sea level and that would be significantly improved. Admitily I have more done than him but for a 240 hp, sixspeed, awd, hatch that costs 30g's I want more. Just my opinon.

plus they are heavy as *****. I think the curb weight is like 3400 lbs and gross is up to 4k i think...I love the specs though. A hatch with a 3.2 liter engine, 240 hp, 6 speed and AWD?! sounds like a monster but its torque hits a high at 2800 rpm thanks to AWD i guess, i can understand if its not a big of a beast as the specs make it look....

As for the sound, i love it. Does anyone know what type of mufflers those are, inlet and any possibility of fitting on a max? just curious...
