Bad Alternator? How much? and other crap
Hey, I checked my car out today at school at just got home at 2am so I havent got to call anyone on prices yet...
But my alternators putting out 39 amps lol opposed to the 110 specs.
I need one bad.... What can i expect to pay for a remanned one?
Any suggestions on where to and not to buy it from?
On top of that i pulled codes from the ecu
i have a bad knock sensor and the heating element on the precat o2 is shot.
the o2 can wait, but the other 2 cant.
What a night.....

Its just the heating circuit that raises it to 600 degrees faster for closed loop. After about 5 minutes when it gets hot enough it will enter closed loop and work properly.
Or do you think its still effecting it?

your alternator might be covered under a recall. Check that option out before you purchase a new one. Call the dealership and give them your vin # and ask them to check for recalls on your car. I can't remember if the 96's were on the list or not, but I know that my 97 was. Hope this helps and good luck

I just brought mine in for an alternator replacement, I am just waiting for the dealer to get back to me.
This is from the recall notice from Nissan
"On some 1997 and 1998 Nissan Maxima vehicles, there is a possibility that the alternator may contain a damaged diode. This could eventually result in an electrical short, which may cause a fire in the alternator that could spread to the engine compartment."
So if you have a 97 or 98, check to make sure that you have a RED band and not a GREEN band on the alternator. I don't know where exactly this band is, but this is what the guy at the counter told me when I asked if it is covered by the Recall.
