Does replacing the ignition switch require a new key?

My car doesn't start on the first try, it takes two times mostly. It makes no grinding or clicking noise, so most people have told me to change the ignition switch. I found the "how to" thread for it but no one mentioned anything regarding the keys. I don't want to have one key for the doors and one for the engine. Can anyone clear this up for me? thanks

If you change your ignition switch, you will definitely end up with another key. Make sure your switch is the problem and if possible, try and fix the original, else you will have two keys for your car.

It doesn't turn over at all? No problem putting in or turning it? Be positive it is the ignition switch. If you have a 99+ then the chipped keys are really expensive and the switch is too I'm sure.

DAMN I have 2 keys for my car, one for the door and another for the ignition could this mean that the ignition was changed at some point?

I thought that we all had 2 keys.

You should be able to get the tumblers changed to orignal key in the new ignition before you install it, by a locksmith, much cheaper to be done if the ignition module isn't in the car and you take it to them rather than a mobile locksmith comng out to your car. That is IF you need a new iginition. Good luck

No problem putting it , or turning. it makes no noise. but when i try the second time, it turns on fine. I found the ignition switch (electrical portion) for 25 dollars from nissan-accessories.com. (The Part number is given in the "how to replace ignition switch thread")

MDeezy: I only have one key, but I can't even remember when I used it to open the door, since we all have keyless. I don't think it will be a big deal after all

Mine does that sometimes, I'll turn the key and the car will go into "run" mode (all the idiot lights go on) but there's no response from the starter (the starter motor was replaced a year ago). If I back the key off to "run" from "start" and back again to "start" it will work perfectly. It happens so much I've forgotten about it but I got a call once when I was getting tires put on and the tire guys couldn't start the car. Does it really sound like my ignition switch is going?

that sounds just like my problem. other people who try to start my car can't start it. when the time comes to ....gasp.....sell the car, it needs to start on the first try every time, other wise people will be turned off (no pun intended) by that.

Makes sense. One of these days I should get remotes so I can use my keyless entry again (I had them and they broke).
