Nose Mask? -- Yay? Nay?

My maxima was recently in a front end accident(I've already posted the pictures). The bumper and right fender has been replaced, and I figured to keep it nice, I would get a nose mask(nose bra?). But I started to think, will having this nose mask on cause the paint to fade differently? I mean if I leave this nose mask on for a few years, and then I finnaly take it off, am I going to be looking at an obvious difference in the paint because what was not coved has faded, and what was covered is still in pristene condition? Also, are you supposed to take these nose covers off every few weeks to clean out what ever gets in there?

If anyone can answer these question, I would be very thankful.

i dont understand those there used to preserve the hood and bumper. but then u cant see it untill u take it off so it seems worthless unless ur tring to hide some defects

well the nose mask does make a huge difference in protecting the bumper and hood from minor sratches.

but you need to realize the directions on the nose mask say not to keep the nose mask on after the car gets wet. the nose max retaines a lot of water and that will fade the front of your. i have a genuine mask, and it sits in my garage almost all year around. good for long trips and thats about it.

I read somewhere that the paint in fact does fade differently under the mask vs. what's exposed. Also, the edge of the mask can scratch the paint. I guess the edges are just too rough, and the whole thing may tend to "shift" side to side. This is all hearsay on my part, but I don't think I'd ever get one of those.

I use my OEM bra when I go on trips. I wish that I would have bought it when I first bought the car. Most of the chips on the hood and bumper came after my 500 mile trips from San Diego to the San Francisco Bay Area (a lot of big trucks kicking up rocks and beris on the I-5). I usually go once a year, sometimes more.

I think it looks nice from the pics. Prolly wouldn't look to great on a pebble beige max, but it looks jawsome on your black max.

cant decide

my front bumper has been messed up since i got it. it is due to the huge bugs of south texas and highway driving. it looks horrible and i cant decide it i should get it to hide the marks. i have a black max so i dont think it would look to bad. but as you guys have mentioned, you have to worry about fitment issues and scratching. i would like to see pics if a black max has the whole mask.

Yea I really don't care what everyone else likes, I just wanted to know if there were any issues that arise from using one of these nose masks.

No issues as long as you take it off after it rains, or whenever you wash your car. I just use it when I go on trips so that it takes the hits instead of the paint.

Some people have told me that once a body panel has been repainted, unless it was OEM manufacturer painted, the bra will mess up the paint in time. Try the invisible bra (XPel). In addition, the car bra will somewhat conceil your cool grill design.

if your very concerned about protecting your front bumper and such, more than looks then get a bra and put it on.

I (my opinion) dont like them and find them ugly, and I dont encounter rocks and such on the road, only a lot of bugs back and forth to school (275 mil trip), but I've seen the bra flapping around on my brothers Max at ~75mph, makes me unconfrtable to see that.

just me.

I like this n00b.. I was saying the same thing to myself...

The only problems I've known to arise from using hood bras is dirt/leaves/crap getting stuck under it... thats about it.

i had one of these on when i bought the car from a private seller. i took it off the day i got it and i saw several paint chips and lines where the paint kinda changed. it isnt noticeble cuz i have a black max but it def does do somthing to the paint if you leave it on for too long during harsh weather. im thinkin of puttin it back on or mabey cuttin it so i ts just on the hood part like (manualmaxima) i think it looks nice
