very weird hesitation, NEED HELP!

driving the max today, and put it into 1st and drive normally until, i suddenly accelerate a little more and my car just hesitates, jumping back and forth (sort of like when your learning to drive stick) then i have to quickly shift into second and same thing happens when i give it more gas. the car just jumps instead of smoothly accelerating. No problem in third or fourth. This is bothering me alot, so if any1 knows what this is and how to fix it , PLEASE HELP

Thanks guys

I Know exactly what it is bro its a bad ignition coil. what happening is the original coils get cracks in them around 100k they start to misfire and cause your car to misfire/hesitate/stall/float i know what ur talking about its like the divers ed guy hitting the brakes right in the middle of the driving lesson and u njust start bucking.
coils are 60 bux a piece at autozone and I reccomend replacing all 6 if you can swing the cash.

I've got the same problem with my 96 5spd. I hope after replacing the fuel filter and the knock sensor this week the problem would go away. If I do have to replace my ignition coils, how would I know which one is going bad? $300 is alot to spend on coils...i'ttl set me back on mods for almost a month.

Yeah I had the same problem in my 1996 5spd too. Weird - I changed my fuel filter to the 300zx filter and i had 2 codes for my o2's show up. Changed those and everything seems to be fine - all I can figure is the car's starving for gas, and it was your old clogged fuel filter.
