Remove Auto Shift Knob?
Turn the car on, but don't start the engine, and shift to neutral. Be sure to put the handbrake on if need be!
There are 2 phillips head screws on the far side (facing dashboard) of your stock shifter. Loosen and remove these. Pull up on the shifter. The push-button will pop out at one point - be sure to save the button and the spring inside.
You won't be able to fully remove the shifter until you have cut the O/D wire, so do that, leaving as much slack as possible for re-connection to your new shifter.
The rest is up to you. Good luck!

u dont need to turn the car on at all...i dont remember doing that...
but as he said, screws in the front, and when u try to slide it up ure gonna get the od wires holding it down...
snip those as close as possible to the stock shifter, so u have enough slack to wire to aftermarket one....while its off, u can even cut ure shifter down
like i did...

if u need n e more help putting the new one on, post in here ill give u some more help if ya need it...

How did you cut your shifter? I removed my auto shifter a while back just to see how hard it was before going aftermarket and I noticed it has the rod inside the tube that prevents the car from being shifted into reverse etc. When you cut it did you loose this 'lock' capability? So now you can just move your shifter without having to push in the button on the side? I'm not talking about the OD function and wires as I already cut those and put a quick release splice in there so I can easily remove the **** again.
I'm just curious as I'll be doing this shortly

no i still have to push the button to move the shifter, (normal use) of course on levoc ure button is on the top, i love it, but n e way....i didnt have a pipe cutter or dremel, but i did have a sawzall, so i used that big shyt to cut through the rod...i cut the outer rod without cutting the inner....i cut the outter rod on 4 sides....then carfeully cut away the remaining pieces of the rod and it came off...buit im sure youll get wut im saying...(cut the outer rod without cutting inner rod) cuz u cant really cut it any other way without touching the inner rod....
next, there is a plastic cap on the inner rod, u dont really need this, but ure cutting the inner rod anyway so it may as well come off....personally i heated it up, and slid it off and used it again after i cut the inner rod...
as far as knowing how much to cut, take ure aftermarket shifter (i did levoc, so thats how im giving my instruction) and put it over ure newly cut rod and inner rod...of course since u didnt cut the inner rod yet its gonna sit high test fitting, but wut u need to do is, with levoc button depressed, push the inner rod down and look how much u need to cut the inner rod that way....if u do it right, ure gonna end up with shifter fitting over everything, and only when u press the button, the inner rod is being pushed....this is one of those things that are hard to explain, but its just very easy and common sense once u get to it....just keep cutting inner rod down til u get it the way iu want it.....the outer rod isnt very important...its just there to hold the shifter in place really....inner rod is wut determines the height of ure finished product...
if u need clearer explanation let me know, ill clarify....oh and levoc shifter comes wit a white plastic piece, i think this serves as some kind of adapter, i didnt use it...
i know it was a confusing little write up there, i just kinda blurted from memory, but i remember hte exact experience, so like i said, let me know wut u need clarification on
alll i used was sawzall and a lighter to burn that hard plastic piece off the inner rod, and back onto it after i cut it down.....
